After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

English is not my mother language but I'd say "cartoon" is more for american series and anime is only for japanese series :)

Anyway if I'm wrong, I really dislike "cartoon" to mean "anime"

To me cartoons and anime are two different things besides for it's easier then calling them "American Cartoons" and "Japanese Cartoons". also till anime was brought to America most characters were like "Looney Tunes" based or people who tried to draw human too realistic. with anime it's like boarder line it's not to real and not to cartoonish either, also the comedy back when i was a kid was dropping anvils on there heads or dropping down a cliff. including did you notice that the art of cartoons are getting close and closer to anime?

I'd say cartoons are most aimed at younger audiences. Also any series made in America could be classed as a cartoon, they just don't seem to get it :) . Although DBZ, Yu-gi-oh, Zoids, Beyblade, Pokemon etc (while they are made in Japan) are closer to cartoons. Anime is for more mature audiences.

There is no difference between cartoons and anime when you look at the basics. Both are animated with animated characters. That's basically what a cartoon is. But to America it's a little different. To America, cartoons are aimed at little kids. thus it's embarrassing to say you like cartoons. But anime are aimed for people of all ages, so the connotation for anime is just "animated video". If you want to get technical you can say that anime and cartoons are the same thing, but I wouldn't recommend telling an anime fan he likes "cartoons".

Cartoon:

Noun
1. a. A drawing depicting a humorous situation, often accompanied by a caption. b. A drawing representing current public figures or issues symbolically and often satirically: a political cartoon. 2. A preliminary sketch similar in size to the work, such as a fresco, that is to be copied from it. 3. An animated cartoon. 4. A comic strip. 5. A ridiculously oversimplified or stereotypical representation: criticized the actor's portrayal of Jefferson as a historically inaccurate cartoon.

anime:

Noun
A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex.

SmarterChild seems to think there is a difference. XD

It depends on how you want to interpret it. 1. "Anime" is the literal abreviation used by Japanese people to describe all animation. By this definition, anime and cartoons are the same thing. I have a Japanese friend who's living in America now and when we talk about Japanese anime she refers to it as "Japanese anime" rather than just anime. 2. "Anime" can be used to desribe only japanese animation. If you hear an American talking about "anime", they usually mean Japanese animation only. It has become a replacement for "japanimation" (which is generally looked down upon among fans of japanese anime these days).

I guess it's because anime has more meaning to it than cartoons (if you mean in english). Canadian cartoons are relatively cheesy and are mostly for young children. Like, "My Little Pony" has absolutely no significance to it, but I would know that if I was a child, I would like the show. Animes have more of a "teenager effect", meaning teenagers, pre-teens and even grown ups can relate to the show more than My Little Pony.

I don't know when I think of anime in America, I picture Pokemon and Digimon, Inuyasha, Big O, ect. And when I think of cartoons, I think of stuff like the Powerpuff Girls, Grim Adventures, Thunder cats, Batman, most marvel/dc programs, and such.

Personally, I think most programs you watch on TV you can distinguish between America cartoons and a Japanese animation cartoon. But, maybe that's just me. >_<; Not that what I had said had really any close helpful hints to what you need to define between the two.

Anime in my opinion has more drama, suspense, and saddness than animerican cartoons. The cartoons here usually focus on comedy or stupid offensive comedy. Actually, it's hard for me to explain except for the fact that anime has some things that cartoons will never have.

yeah, anime has already been defined as a standard genre for a certain type of animation. whic in this case is Japanese cartoons.

well, basically we consider anime to be targetted to more mature audiences.

it is actually because in japan, anime is intended for adults. even manga. it's actually a primetime show for them =)

For me, cartoon and anime is different things.
cartoons such as mickey mouse, speedy gonzalous, etc. mainly aimed for kids. the storyline is not the main point.
anime's storyline is much more important, compare to cartoons. And anime shows what the wrtitter(creator) thinks, and how he/she thinks, and bring the messeges to who watch the anime.
