Artistic photography
I may not be too good at it, but I like to take artsy-looking pictures every so often. I don't like how most of my shots come out, but I've taken a few that I'm really proud of.

Self-portrait featuring my hands.

This one's a little hotel in Santa Rosa, CA.
Anyone else like to take artistic shots?

Hi ^^
i like taking pictures in general...
i can't really say i like taking... artistic photos...
i just like takings pictures that mean something to me...
i really like taking black and white pictures...
although a few sepia photos slip in ^^
as for your pictures...
your self-portrait featuring your hands...
i think it's... amazing how you get the picture to draw the viewer's eye to your ring... and the slight fuzziness of the pictures makes it kind of... surreal and dream-like... like a fairytale kind of feeling... very pretty... or... that's how i see it.... ^^;; but i like it =)
the hotel in santa rosa
i don't know how to explain it but... it reminds me of... not cubism... but... you know what i mean? it's a photo composed primarily of geometric shapes ^^ even the pipe on the wall... and the trees behind the building... it's like... a transformed cylinder with... spheres... maybe i'm just freaking out about my placement exam tomorrow x_X
other than that... i like your work ^^
have you been taking photos long?
i have... photo taking spasms every... month or so ^^;;
nice to meet you ^^
m.i.a. =p

check my DA to see if i have any artistic vision. i don't judge such things about myself, for my views can easily be prejudiced.

@AngelicHapa: Nice shots. What kind of camera are you using?
@damoser: Decent shots, but a little work on your composition would have big benefits. No real comments otherwise, but I realized I recognized a vista depicted in your gallery; I'm actually from the same state. Small world.
The last time I shot with the goal of taking "artsy" shots was with a film SLR; I've since purchased a DSLR but that's mainly only for having archival quality shots.

@ Uzu: Hello yourself! Thank you for the kind words.
I know exactly what you mean when you speak of "photo-taking spasms." I'm much the same way - I have bursts of creativity and dry spells in-between. My creative bursts take on many forms though - writing, music, photography.
@ oto: Yes, I was referring to artsy photography.
That "almost round something" in the middle of the hands picture is the space between my arm and my torso; namely, the wall. =p
@ dam: I don't know how exactly to describe artsy photography myself, since it's so subjective. It's kind of a "you'll know it when you see it" thing.
The apples and the flower pictures stood out most to me, of the bunch on your DA. I think you have a good eye.
@ Orchid: Thanks. I took both of those with my husband's Nikon Coolpix 8700. The camera I lay sole claim to (and still use occasionally) is a Kodak EasyShare CX7430. It's not even remotely in the same league as the Coolpix, though a little photoshop can go a long way. =P

The hotel pictures is GREAT!
The textures look incredible

Thanks and thanks.
i suppose i should also mention the fact that i like the shots you took as well, especially the hotel one. using b/w was a good choice. the other one almost looks commercial, as in for advertising purposes, but it's very nice.

Thank you, Uba. =)
Dam - What do you think of the alternate versions of each, then?
Hands in greyscale | Hotel in color
I kind of see what you're saying though. And honestly, if I had to say which I was stronger at, black and white or color photography, right now I'd say black and white. I am by no means an expert, but I seem to have a bit of an edge when color is removed. I don't have a fancy enough camera to capture the exact colors I want to. And on the other hand, my black and white editing techniques have gotten better.

I prefer the ones you posted here. the lightings not quite right for the hands to be in gray scale, and the contrast of the hotel one in grayscale is just better.
Those are quite sharp images. Wonderful how you had absolutely no blur in them - I guess those Nikon lenses do wonders
P.S. I just found out that you have the same model as I do!

My favorite is the hotel photo. you edit it very well and the angle of the photos is nice too
My weakness taking photo is shaking. But you dont. Its amazing ^^

I deffinantly prefer the hands in black and white. As for the hotel, i'm not sure i think i prefered it in b/w however it was difficult to see what is was you were taking a picture of. Which is probably what i liked about it. Either way i much prefer the hands picture over the hotel and it's much better in grayscale than in color.

I admire the pictures I've seen in this thread, and I have to admit it makes me both inspired and ashamed. I've had a nice digital camera for over a year now, and I still don't know how to use it other than holding it up and clicking the button. (I just get intimidated by the interface--I want a full-side keyboard and pull-down menus!)
Lovely pictures, everyone. Let's see some more! I'll add something some time, and you guys can tell me if I'm doing anything right :)

The hands picture is cool
The other one looks great too - may be because it is in black and white
