Portal
Love. This. Effing. Game. Period. I'd heard about the release shortly after Episode 1 (in the Half Life 2 series) and the tension was definitely building. For anyone who has no idea what I am talking about, Portal is basically a 3D environment puzzle game, with a HL like twist at the end. You wake up in a cube that is your sleeping quarters (more like a prison because there are no doors) and then the automated computer voice kicks in telling you that the tests will begin shortly. You venture out of your "cube" and this is the first glimpse of the portal you get. If you looked closely, you can see that your character (for that just have to see themselves inside a game) is in fact a girl whose name is only uttered as, "Subject name",in the most AI like voice you can imagine. The game is filled with puzzles and sarcasm. It's like Valve put this game out to be a participle joke, but they then were surprised by it's success. I have no idea, so don't hold me to that one.
And like any game puzzle or FPS it will slowly get more difficult for you to survive and complete your task.
Anyway, sorry for the review, haha. If you have played it, let me know what you thought.
P.S: I read online somewhere that the idea of a custom map maker should be created to allowed for player-made puzzles. That would make this game possibly one of the greatest games of all time. It's definitely the freshest idea in any genre we've had in some time.

I have The Orange Box, but I've yet to open it. When I do decide to open the game, Portal will be the first game I play.
Portal is incredibly epic. It's pretty short, but every moment of it is awesome.
Typically I'm not very big on PC games (or first-person games, for that matter), but I couldn't stop playing Portal until it ended...then I just wanted more XD.
The best part is that it not only plays great, but it has a lot of subtle things thrown around that are incredibly hilarious. That, along with the plot twists make it awesome. I love GLaDOS, too XD.
Companion Cube <#

OMG! Everything I've seen about this game looks so freaking awesome/EPIC. But I heard you have to get the Orange box to get the game! I'm so disappointed that its not sold separately...I want to play it soooo bad. Damn, if anyones played it please me know if its worth buying the orange box!

In general if you play fps's, its a good choice to get the oj box. 4 games for the price of 1, 4 good games.

This game is freakin' sweet! The new gameplay techniques, the intertwined story of Aperture Science with the Half-Life universe, not to mention the kick-ass song while the credits play. It's just great. In my opinion, maybe even the best of the Orange Box... maybe.

This game is the most weird yet most interesting game i've ever played
but i must say.. the game did get me quite dizzy with all those portals and jumping, lol

You can buy it by itself with steam, but yeah the better deal lies in the Orange.
Oh really, you can buy it solo through steam? Thats sweet...the main reason I want it solo is because I don't play any of the other games it comes with so it would be just a waste IMO
Definitely the best puzzle game ever made and the my favorite part of the orange box. I love the insane, hopeless theme to it and the cake recipes everywhere. By the way, the cake is a lie.
Yeah, for sure and of course the companion cube. I got kind of giddy when I found the wallpapers for it.

WALLPAPERS!? Where did you find them at?
And the game is a lot better if you wait until like 11 o'clock and stay up all night beating it and stop when the sun comes up.

This makes me want to get Orange Box even more now

The game is fantastic, but by far the ending theme is best :)

Even though it was a short game, they really have a good concept going here, I hope theres downloadable content for it with more levels. And within the gaming community, this has just become a cult hit. You can't go to any site now adays with out someone's sig saying "THE CAKE IS A LIE, THE CAKE IS A LIE" speaking of which, the new VG cats comic with the alternate Mario 64 opening, HILARIOUS.
speaking of hilarious, the ending song in Portal, that had to be the best part.
