Who are you really?
Hey guys,
I've been surfing the net for years, and it seems like the older I get, the more hateful cyberspace becomes. I have no problem with people venting online, but why would you take it to a personal level. For example if you choose to take on a religion, what right does someone have to bash you for it. I understand that people believe in different things, atheism, God, Buddha, etc... I just want to know why you take time out of your day to make sure someone's faith is shattered? Keep in mind I'm not talking about anyone in particular but the internet as a whole. Why do people feel the need to push the limit of someone's patience, and then get mad when they defend them selfs. I know this is a little of topic but I'm doing a little venting. So, the question is if you're nice online, are you a complete ******* in real life or vice-versa?
This is my first shot at starting a convo...be easy.

I think a lot of people are faced with these dilemmas. A lot of people who are "internet bullies" are often misconstrued as just the kids who get picked on at school or in life; so they come to the internet to seek revenge on people who don't know anything about them. However, I've come to notice that a lot of individuals who are assholes online, tend to be the same way off-line. I have no issues with telling people that I'm a cynical asshole off and online because that's just who I am. I know I have a low tolerance for stupidity and for things that just don't tend to interest me. I don't fault or ridicule the people who come online to get away from reality, but something they'll soon realize is that the internet is reality within itself. You can't really ever escape who you are no matter how far into the net you run.
The "you" online has some reflection to the "you" in real life IMO but it's not always how you are, if you're nice online you could be mean offline maybe. Why not? Offline you are pressured by your friends or cliche you hang out with (ex. they might pressure you into bullying someone with them or w/e etc etc). But then there are some smart people out there who don't get pressured into doing things like mehself. ^^ But I also agree with what Netbevit said with the bullying offline and online.. Online, people can't do anything about it so they decide to be assholes like that. When in real life offline they might be nice 'cuase if they don't, they'll get attacked.. Etc you get it. They are just stupid pathetic people so just ignore 'em. xP I think arguing online is completely stupid and pointless, and I agree with Netbevit again with the rest. ^^
Actually, I find I'm nicer online than off. Not to say I'm a total jerk in real life, but because my friends can be really blunt, I sometimes feel that if I don't fight back, I'll be backed into a corner(metaphorically). Online, I find I'm quite the gentleman if I do say so myself(now there's a weird sentence). I feel this is how I actually like to act, and I do act very kindly to most people in real life.
Of course, You could also think about things this way. If the person acts like a jerk online, and friendly offline, or vice-versa, then it's two sides off the same coin. Granted, they may act nice most of the time, but they obviously have the potential to act mean. Then again, this can be said about almost anyone.

I see that someone's a virgin I use to say that I'll kill them then eat them...XD
Anyways...
I think I'm pretty nice in the internet.
and as for my persona...I'm the same psycho in real life and I am in the internet.
As for the spamming, I spam as much in real life as I do in the internet.
As for my randomness, I'm as random in real life as I am in the internet.
As for my bad character, I'm as moody in real life and I am in the internet.
As for hating, I spread around my hatred much more in real life than I do in the internet.
As for being outward, I'm much more outward in real life than I am in the internet.
To be honest...Internet is pretty limited and easily misunderstood.
I think that's the problem with the people that get to serious in the internet.

I'm a person who sometimes very blur..and alwaz think something negative...quite fool...if i cant concentrate well and sometimes i made mistakes, i'll angry myself...and saying tat y i'm so stupid?
I am who I say I am on any profile. I make no lies about it, or try to be someone I am not, because that's not me. On one forum, I tried to post as a girl, but it didn't really turn out quite well, because that is not who I am. (I was exposed in a hurry.)
But I don't make any lies about who I am online. Some people will think that I am a kid, somewhere among 12 or 13 years old. Horror story: at a forum I go to, while I was posting about football jerseys, this poster who supports Liverpool Football Club calls me a "fanboy p.o.s." I let him know that he has bad taste in giving me good or bad reputation, and I sent them back to him. He tells me to do a list of stuff that I already do anyway, and I said, "Hey, as long as you do the same thing, not just to me, but to everyone you meet, I will do it."
The bugger hasn't crossed paths with me since. I think I am getting the message to him loud and clear. That being said, I am a person who believes in what I say and do, and if 23 years old counts as being a kid, so be it, because that's what they are. And I will know who they are quickly. When they are exposed, I pierce the veil on those trolls...just like that.

Hard to say really, unlike in online communities, I don't post details of my job, I don't really assume my age either, I also like to withhold information on my past so logic will suggest you should even question my gender, because I am by any certain freedom as intended with the founding of the internet, free to manipulate all information of me myself and my army.
I sometimes think the persona online is the real person simply because they are not pressured by the outside world to behave in a certain way or do something they really don't want to do. Many people bash on others online for their religion, race, interests etc. simply because along the line in their lives they have felt that these things have caused them pain, sorrow, etc. However, I don't think such experiences are an excuse for them to do such a thing to others online. People like that are cowards who are to scared to face the problems face to face in outside reality and turn to the net simply because their identities are obscure if not hidden.
I think i'm pretty all around nice on the internet and in real life... i mean what's the point in wasting your time in bullying someone... waste of time when you could be doing something else.
Hmm my personality on the internet is pretty much the same in real life, but for this matter... its 50/50 really.

I think I come across as nicer online. There's more time for me to think my way through before replying or doing things online so that I don't make too many mistakes or come across as too tactless. And of course the emoticons help, too. XD Trust me, it'll make you seem less foreboding if instead of typing, "Yeah. Sure. Hi." you type, "Yeah. Sure. Hi. ^_^"
Other than that, though, I'm pretty much the same in real life as I am online. Sheesh, constructing a false online personality for myself is not something I'd devote my time and brain cell energy to. I have better things to do. XD

Its a tricky question really, because the internet is synonymous with anonymous. That's where the freedom comes in, that a person can be whoever they want on the surface. But just because you claim to be, let's say, a magical cat girl, on one site and a hard core Shakespeare fan on the other doesn't mean that both are wrong. Peoples' personalities are too fractured to condensed into an "online" and an "offline" personality. They're both essentially. It just depends on what side of us the environment brings out. More freedom on the internet could mean the more crazy personality. We are who we are regardless.
I'm equal net or "live" but there are many people who is so different whe they talk person to person, I understand that is not the same look into some one eyes is not easy, by net you have time to spell check and think twice what you are going to write, not same on real time, :P
