I hope it looks okay. I think I should do a bit more with the character's scan, but I'm not sure what...

I really think that you should maybe change the colors of the girls cloths, if I was doing it, I'd change the red to pink and make the green ribbon lighter. My reason is because the soft pink bg (which is very pretty btw) is contrasting with the harsh christmas-y colors of the girl. Then I'd add "magic energy" around the girl and sakura petels, maybe even some sparkles. I'd finish it up by changing the font to a softer and more flowery type.

But that's only me, it depends what you're trying to say with you're wall, if you want the girl to stay the same, I'd make the bg harsher toned and themed....and maybe add snow and a christmas tree...lol, Just kidding!

Aaaaaahhhh, she's RED AND PINK!!! Yeh, I made her red and pink, just to see if it'd work better... I'm not so sure myself, but my sense of taste isn't great. Anywho... 2nd version...

Either way, I could definitely use some more critique on the wall, because it doesn't feel done to me. Should I change something with the actual scan of the character, Shinku, or not? I somehow think that because the bg seems a bit blurred, the character's lines and borders should be a little less accented. Anyone want to help me out?

seems that you're curious in anybody to commenting your wall' well, let me try to comment you. actually, i don't really suit to this kind of girly wall. anyway, the scan is great' you colored it with quite a talent" (i can't do that myself. ) but there's several small mistake there.. while i look closely to the scan.. ee.. on the edge of the scan.. ee.. what i mean is the lineart of the scan is broken in some parts. below is the example i make from what i mean just now.. so that you understand it clearly..



yupe, you can see that it's quite crumpy isn't it? there's several other parts that have the same thing.. try to trace it yourself~ other than that.. for the BG it's too blur.. even though looks quite nice with the scan. furthermore the text, it looks clumsy. i think you better put the beautiful handwriting better than that.. ee.. something like "monotype corsiva".. that's compatible with her traditional english style most. (what the hell.. ) i think that's all from me.. no offense' just follow your own feeling anyway.

The lineart is incomplete in some places and it is also highly jagged in a lot of other place. there are some funny things happening with the outlines. >_< you should look into all of her outlines to smooth out everything. as well, some parts of her look grainy, like the pink parts. =/ (is this a scan, a recolored scan, or a vector?) please fix up these quality issues. and could you make her bow and head ribbon the same pink? right now the two have different shades.

aside from that, yeah, the bg is too blurry for her. the contrast between how sharp and focused the girl is and how blurred the bg is seems pretty jarring and that's not a good thing. maybe you can vector trace the rose outlines and see if that helps. the rose traces might need a bit of softening though because the rest would still be out of focus.

and as for the text...please remove the default blending effects. those are generally unnecessary for text (and they don't look too great here) and what's unnecessary is often best left out of the wall. that's something to keep in mind. i'd also make the font size smaller too, but that depends on the next font you choose because this serif font isn't pretty enough for a pink, girl + rose wall. ;P i would go with calligraphy-ish fronts, but try to look for something original and not overused. here is where i disagree with s3n1sh1 -- don't use monotype corsiva. pick something less stiff than monotype corsiva. dafont.com is a good place to start your search.

Well, the grainy-ness, I can easily fix, so I'll do that right now. I think the main reason that it's grainy (and I saw that myself) is because I'm trying to save space on my computer, seeing as I only have about 150 MB left of space, so I'm not saving it at the highest quality.

The miscolored pinks should be easy... So I can work on that right now.

Making the roses sharper... might take a while, but I'll try. I made the whole bg from scratch, so it could take a few hours. But, hey, I'm fine with working hard. ^_^

And the text... Well, I've heard before that cursive/calligraphy fonts don't really work on wallpapers, which made me feel like using this font, but I'll see what I can use.

That's the right attitude. :P hard work pays.

oh and it's quite true that cursive fonts can often not work well on wallpapers. (i think i've stressed this point to different people on different occasions, since i find that a lot of beginners tend to have an attachment to fancy lettering. and by fancy lettering i mean like those you'd have on a wedding invitation or something. that's no good.) but there are situations where script fonts are suitable. the font, font size, and color of the text all have to be tailored to the needs and appearance of the wallpaper.

Well, I just went on vacation to Alaska, so I'll fix it up when I get back home in California on Sunday. So, are there any more suggestions? I'd be glad to evaluate any suggestions to see what I should do.

Fade the girl a little she stands out to much. The background is really good!

Thanks. Well, I'm going to sharpen the bg, so the girl being too much sharper than the bg should hopefully be fixed.

I looked at it again and i realized that youre not using a very good scan/vector. It's kind of bad quality and grainy in places, the colorings a little weird too, maybe you should find a different scan
