Are you a Human Weapon?
If you're from the States you'll probably notice that the topic title is taken from the new show Human Weapon on the history channel.
Muay Thai...
Eskrima...
Judo...
Savate...
Krav Maga...
Prankration...
Apart from the more "common" martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do and Karate, have any of you practiced any of the following or even ones not mentioned? Mixed martial arts perhaps?
This isn't just self-defense but the sheer physical brutality of martial arts.
How capable are you in sparring or one-on-one or multiple confrontations?
If you were attacked, could you maim, cripple, or even kill an attacker using your martial arts?

I don't know any martials, but if someone attacked me, I think it best to just scream and run like hell, if possible. And speaking of the History Channel, I've been meaning to watch this show for a while, but my cable just stopped working recently and I'm still waiting for someone from Time Warner to clean up this mess.
I used to train Butterfly Wing Tsung, however i dont train it anymore. If i were attacked i would just walk away if possible, however if my loved ones were the one attacked i would have pounded the attacker badly. I remember my sensei telling me once "you arent learning self-defense, you are learning the art of killing" (some of you may not agree but you should understand what a straight punch or kick in a vital spot could cause) and i could understand him.. i dunno maybe that is the reason i stopped training long time after as I felt that i dont need that kind of responsobility in my hands.
I dont like fighting.. it is unnecessary.

I have. but just two of these styles in the past but
frankly if I would use it as a last resort.
Never the less, I prefer to run as hell
. Fighting is bad!! in many ways. It looks better on Movies or Anime

Fighting is when you have nothing else capable of doing...it's a last resort move. If I can avoid a fight I will, however, if my life or the ones of the people I care where in direct threat, I will fight, and fight well.
I've trained for 6 years Aikido, 1 year Ninjutsu and some Karate and Tae Kwon Doo. Haha, I am not a human weapon at all like in those movies, but I'm capable of maiming, breaking bones or pinning an opponent down. Killing probably if really necessary, although I wouldn't want to do that if it can be avoided.
In fact, I have been attacked before...mugged by 3 people. Managed to break one guy's arm, kick another in the head, then ran like hell. No point risking your life if an oppening showed up right?

I have trained in Tae Kwon Do in the past. Unlike most schools, my dojo adhered to the rules very firmly. Should anyone have disrespected the dojo, sensei or each other, my sensei would take the liberty to punish them; physically if it was a serious act. But I don't mean to digress. If anyone attacked me, I would most likely fight back to defend myself but only to defend myself. However, since I have not trained in Tae Kwon Do for years, I might not be as strong as I was before with my fists.
However, if I am attacked while carrying a boken(which I do often) or a katana(which I almost never do), the attacker would hit the ground the second he touches me(considering I train with a boken/katana 24/7)
GO KENDO!

I've never been assaulted before but if I were to be in the near future, I should run.

I ever study Kung FU a little.. It's hard!
Now I studying Tae Kwoon Do..

I agree that fight is the last resort. I know Greek Dirty fighting (similar 2 street fighting). It's a *skill* that you don't stop beating your oponent using everything you got (and every item you find neer 2 U) until his face fuse with the Flour. The one with the better speed and stamina wins a cookie.
Um well i don't know any martial arts at all... my sister is taught Self-Defence in school in her P.E lessons... although she can't be bothered teaching me. If someone attacked me i'm totally vunerable (i knew this when my friend, who is smaller than me, pinned me against the canteen wall and i couldn't move -_-" ) and can't really do anything except scream. Hopeuflly i won't get attacked *crosses fingers hopefully*
I dont know any of these but i use my willpower to really take my strength to the limit.Willpower can do anything..Hell Ya it can

It's not like a martial art it self , but i practice CAPOEIRA for 3 years. It's was awsome the thinks that some people can do whith a serius training. After that i have to leave it because i don't have the necesary time (i was also working and studing)
I did shorin-ryu since i was 9. i was trained in nunchucks (practically useless since you don't carry them around
) and escrima.
technically most common objects can be used as weapon so i try to incorporate them into techniques and the "belt" is my favorite.
but here's something to brag...
i've never fought anyone(in combat) in my life. my necklace was snatched once, i just gave a face like
then
one tried to pick a fight with me once... just gave him a dumb expression
i ended up being a joke.
to me... as long as it can avoid violence, any excuse would do fine.
(did martial arts for exercise, discipline... and well... uh... for the babes?
)

I have trained a bit in various martial arts out of self defense and would have to admit to the fact that there are times where I have come close to harming someone because I was caught off guard. Yet on the other I have never gone as far as to harming; normally I would catch myself in time before I could actually end up harming another person due to trained reflexes and some paranoia.
I don't do martial arts. I've thought about taking some but I've never gotten around to it. Nevertheless I do fight pretty well, I practice on my own and things like that. So while I've never taken any official martial arts I am still pretty capable.
