Sad Endings or Happy Endings?

Hello. I thought of this topic after some time thinking about the sad ending I watched in Basilisk. I guess I like sad endings compared to happy ones......... Maybe it depends on the anime. Right? Imagine an anime, let's say Ah! My Goddess having a sad ending where Belldandy or Keiichi dies, it feels a bit funny right? Maybe a bit. But after watching Basilisk, the feeling of the ending was really buried deep into me. So, I just want to read your opinions.
I think that is a really hard question to answer since my opinion is split in a strange kind of way. Take for example Saikano, the ending is really sad and I love the ending because it is kind of beautiful but at the same time I would have wanted to see a happy ending so I can´t decide what I like the most.
Well sometimes, i may prefer a happy ending, but sometimes, a sad ending will be better. It depends...
A sad ending may be SAD, but sometimes, it makes me feel happy, its weird. It may be due to having watching the anime series for so long, and was happy to see the ending, by that, i am really satisfied.
While, a happy ending would be most appeal to most people. Like, the two lovers being together... Happy endings gives people a sweet memory of that anime series.
So, i like both happy and sad ending.

I depends really. Look at Elfen Leid for instance. It had a bitter sweet ending. Yet I could not imagine a better ending to it.

Both are dificult to get.
Real sad endings and comical ones, they are the signature of a GOOD WRITER.
As long as they are good, I like them both.

Depends on the anime and how it has been building up. I personally prefer a happy ending in general though. Having a feel good feeling just seems like a better resolution, but sad endings can naturally work great too if handled with due care.

It depends on the story(as many has already said) but I, myself, prefer happy endings, because it doesn't leave a bittersweet taste after, like a sad ending, it reminds me of the anime for a long time. But that's also something good, because it makes me remember the anime for a long time and that's maybe the writer wanted.
I want some characters to be happy, some would leave a greater impact if they died or something, therefore a bittersweet ending.
If everything was happy-happy, I'd easily forget about the anime.

I like both happy and sad endings. I do like a few sad endings in like a drama anime. But I prefer more happy endings then sad ones.
I think..that..there are WAYYY too many happy ending for once i would liek to see some sad endings...alot of endings are really crappy...i prefer manga..but...Animes are..really good too =DDD

This may be odd but I like bittersweet (sad?) endings best. Examples will be Fate/Stay Night, Gundam Seed/ Destiny and Chrono Crusade, just to name a few. But honestly it depends on the show. For example, Mai Hime definitely deserved a happy ending.

I like sad endings more sort of because then it gives me a sort of feeling...it's hard to explain but I find happy endings boring sometimes. I probably agree...it does maybe depend on the anime but on air TV it was sort of a "happy" story in the beginning and at the end it was sad and touching...so...I just think it makes the ending more interesting...

I prefer sad endings i guess...
Maybe its because happy endings sometimes irritate me...but it really depends on the anime itself, like comedy anime it would be kinda weird to have a sad ending to it.
At the moment I haven't really watched an anime with a really sad ending to it.

Well. To sum it up, sad endings for me. But there is a limit as to how much I can stand tragedy before I break and everything becomes unreal.
