Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

I really like it! There are some parts, though, where I'm like, "Ugh, that's lame." Like when Misa came. And if the friend who made me read the series hadn't warned me about the lameness of the beginning, I wouldn't have kept reading. XP But despite all that, it's a really cool manga. I love the reasoning and planning and stuff that goes on. Everything Light does has so many layers of thought processing. It's really interesting! I kinda label it as a "detective" type manga, even though it's kinda not. But the layers of reasoning and planning make it kind of similar. And I like that stuff, too. :P Death Note is great, though! I'd recommend it to anyone. ^^

I really liked the beginning of Death Note (i.e. the first 58 chapters). Recently though, I think it's gotten pretty bad. There'e a huge plot twist later on and most people are not happy about it, including me. Don't worry, I wouldn't spoil the series for anyone that likes it. ^__^ While I recommended it to my friend last year, I regret it now. It's just not the same thing it used to be anymore.

Ah, disappointments abound, but I have the perfect solution for you guys. Go read Monster or Pluto instead. That way you won't be disappointed.

Hmm, i was just wondering whether there is a topic based on this manga and here it is, right on the second page of this section.

grudgesoul, hows the story of MONSTER and PLUTO? I just read Deathnote and I got pulled into it so much, i finish reading the scans of 61 chapters in 2 days, of course, not 24 hours a day, i need some breaks after staring at the monitor for hours. anyway, I though the story was progressing nicely, but as what most of you guys mentioned, the later part of the story is kind of a disappointment, they should just wrap up the series after the "L" saga, i believe this is not a spoiler so I didnt put any warning.

but since I'm tied to the series now, I'll just keep going.

LOL, yeah I don't like Misa that much either. I also really like the plot and the character design (it's kind of strange after reading Hikaru no Go, two completely different stories). I also really like the beginning! It really caught my attention. It's a really interesting story!
I read the oneshot first and I'm really happy that it continued into an actual series.

I think everyone hates Misa. xD;;

Zephyranthes asked earlier about Pluto and Monster's storylines and I have a very simple answer. They both have the same intrigue and mystery that made Death Note a success, except there's no Misa. And that makes them better. It irritates me when you've got a great series, but then the creators decide to throw in some fanservice and ruin it all.

Another reason why Pluto and Monster are better than Death Note is that they are more realistic. Now, I'm not talking about the shinigami, because I liked how Death Note combined the detective genre with mythology/spirits. I'm referring to some of the plans that L and the police force carry out. For instance, it seems too farfetched to have a whole skyscraper built just for a several member team. Also, I doubt that the United Nations and the Japanese police force would trust an important case (catching Raito) to a boy they hardly know (L). L exerts far too much political influence and the police is strangely unable to find out any information about him. This just doesn't seem too plausible.

Pluto's main character is a police officer/investigator who recieves as much power and influence as you'd expect. No more, no less. Monster's main character is a doctor with neccessary skills but lacks any political know-how. They're both more realistic than either Raito or L. Raito is too young/too inexperienced to be able to fool the entire Japanese police force and FBI agents. And yes, there are geniuses in the world, but I doubt any of them are able to single-handedly influence the United Nations like L can. Both of them would have been much better characters if they had more flaws.

I think that's why I enjoy reading Pluto and Monster more. Don't get me wrong, since fantasy is probably my favorite genre but there's a limit to how much Raito and L can get away with. It's like Star Wars. I love Yoda and his fighting technique. But after a few minutes of his elite lightsaber skills, I begin to think that it's ridiculous.

Since I'm going off on a tangent, I'll stop rambling. I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say. (And just to make it clear, I'm NOT bashing Death Note! I like it a lot, except Pluto and Monster are better in my opinion).

I really enjoyed Death Note at first. The plot was simply riveting. And then chapter 60 happened. Now I just think they're dragging the series on needlessly. Although, I suppose I should at least give them props for so blatantly inserting the passage of time. Usually, it's much more subtle in other series I've read or watched. But I liked that lack of subtlety - it was fresh.

Misa...is Misa. An absolutely useless character, really. Once her part was over, I wondered what she was still doing there.

Death Note is inevitably a great and ingenius manga. Though the initial plot is a tad weird, i find that this manga is one that just grabs at you. However I agree with everyone here that unfortunately it had probably proceeded to where it shouldn't have. I also find that Raito's sudden 'conversion' to being evil in only 5 days (at the start of the manga) is a bit unbelievable. I also agree with Chiisai that Raito not being 'evil' is well NOT Raito, and that stage of the manga was not as interesting, however i did very much enjoy the double personality and complexity of Raito's situation.
