GSD Wall - Need Opinions

I have been trying for several days now to hunt down a snapshot from a scene in Gundam SEED Destiny. In episode 6, Kira (A main character) watched a colony fall to Earth from a beach. Everyone I've shown this to says they would like to see a wallpaper made out of it, so I've been working on that. Sofar, however, this is the best I can come up with:

The orginal was 640x320 I believe, and even then there was slightly noticable artifacts. But at 1024x768, there is more fuzz then I can handle. So, I would like some peoples opinion on this.
Firstly, should I turn this image into a vector? Now, this would be my best choice in terms of cool factor because this would look very nice vectorized. Sadly, it would probably take me a week to do this. I'm not the best vector artist either.
Secondly, I could try to use some filters to produce some sort of painting look. It will be very blurry, but that should take care of alot of the artifacts and fuzz.
Or thirdly, should I just give up and not even spend my time on it?

Wow..I'd really love for this to be a wallpaper..hmm..maybe vectoring it will really take you a long time..why not start from scrap..Add the clouds, make the sea and the planet and comet-like thingies in the sky...then add Kira..(or maybe just look for a scan alike the one you have here and reduce his size and put him in the wall)..It may take you about 3-4 days to complete it but at least it's less than the length of time when you vector it..some tutorials and following the concept of this screencap should do the trick..
but that's just my opinion..Hope you'd work on this..I'd really love to see this finished..^^

I think if your going to make a wallpaper out of it, vector it! Its okay if it will take a long tome, some wallpapers or vectors take even longer. I say go for it!
I tried to begin on vectorizing it, but it's just too much for me. Theres so much detail that I just cannot handle with my skill level. I still really want to make this a wallpaper, though.
Please tell me what you think of this. I may try something like this:

It's a good idea and i like the concept but it's too blurry and needs to be improved.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Dont get the wrong impression that it's skill that makes an excellent wall :) all it takes is good patience (a lot of it, i might add)
photoshoptower.com there is a good "supernova" or whatever tutorial here...it can help you with the fire effects...there is also a planet tutoriat that will help you will a nice looking planet to place in it.
pslover.com is also an excellent tutorial site
hey, if you think you cant do something here, just go on your own artistic license and go around it...it the fire is too "detailed" to work with, put some comets (tutorial...search on pslover) against a starry bg or something (theres tutorials for those as well)
you're only limited by your own creativity ;)
