Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

This could just be me being anal, but I like to browse the Fruits Basket wallpapers as I am a very big fan who has been faithfully following the manga through Tokyopop's releases. However, occassionally there would be wallpapers that feature what I think are significant images from later chapters not yet released in the U.S. (images of Kyo and Tohru embracing, which I would figure would happen anyway, but I'd like the image to be fresh when I get my manga). The wallpapers are beautifu and I don't really mind when little things are spoiled l, but it does take a little away from the reader's experience.

animepaper.net is a large and mechanically complex community, but if it's possible I think it would be helpful for the thumbnails of images that contain potential spoilers to display a warning about it. So yeah, this is just a suggestion. Thanks!

That's a good idea, but here's the problem: what a spoiler is to you might be something else to another. Where do you draw the line into the "spoiler" category? Somebody might have read all the volumes, and somebody might have seen none, so what qualifies the image as being "spoiler materiel"?

Your suggestion makes sense, but would be complicated to manage.

An additional issue with implimenation is that to correctly enforce this idea would mean that as a moderator I would have to be familiar with every series that I am reviewing art for so that I can prevent these spoilers. That's not exactly practical.

You'll need a lot of spare time for that.

hey it wouldnt be so bad trying to be familiar with every series ^^

yea, it would be most difficult to keep up with also, because every time a new manga chapter is released in the US that would mean that AP would have to update constantly and that would take time away from the real point of the site which is to show wallpapers. Its really impossible for such a small group of admins to do all that. (even if each one knew everything and every anime and manga series). But a good utopian idea none the less

The best way to imlement a spoiler feature I see would be to add two additional fields to the submit page where the manga/anime volume of the first appearance of the spoiler can be entered by the creator of the wall. Each user could then define his progress with the series he's watching/reading the same way. Based on this data each user could then have an individual gallery without spoilers.

Not viable. How are the thumbnails going to display the word "WARNING: Spoiler that begins on manga chapter ##"? Don't forget, thumbnails are automatically generated from the original wallpaper source. Even when texts does appear and covers the whole thumbnail (thus rendering the original purpose of the thumbnail as a preview method obsolete), you still need to know if the picture is a spoiler or not (or most importantly, whether it's a wallpaper you like or not). And not clicking on all the thumbnails means you potentially lose the opportunity to view many of the great works in the Gallery.

Another alternative would be to black out/or remove all wallpaper thumbnails. Everyone will take their chances instead and click on every single submission to see how the wallpapers actually look like. But entering the wallpaper thread means getting spoiled which nullifies the black out in the first place.

We already have a scan description box which people hardly uses. Another issue is where will the spoiler warning appear? On the same page as the wallpaper thread would mean that the person would have seen the spoiler image first before reading the text. On the thumbnail in the Gallery? That would just be the same as the above reason provided.

The worst possible method would be:

Click thumbnail-less wallpaper link > pop-up message appears "Potential Spoilers from manga chapter ##. Proceed?" > Click YES since you have already read the manga chapter > Wallpaper appears and you find it's a wallpaper that you do not like at all. One download slot wasted for nothing.
