The Zune sounds like an iPod that ate a DS and a PSP, and then added turd brown as a case color option...
I was waiting to see how long it would take for the brown colour to be mentioned... why Microsoft why, there are so many colours, and you had to pick turd brown...
To me, Wi-Fi which is supposedly going to be one of the main selling points seems like a complete waste of time. Unless you know other people who have a Zune device (none of my friends want one) you can't share music and other things anyway, and I certainly won't be synchronising with my computer by using Wi-Fi. I already know how painfully slow it is from when I tried to sync my music library on my LifeDrive over Wi-Fi (and that was only about 3GB at the time).
It's supposedly not going to support playsforsure, instead it's going to have it's own store, so people moaning about the iTunes music store being tied to iPods can moan at this as well. It won't play protected songs bought from places like Napster and MTV's Urge, also the Zune won't be able to play recorded TV from Media Center PCs, which is a bit of a let down
I wonder what the Zune will do if you put it flat on a table, will it let you choose the orientation?
As it's going to be bigger than the iPods it had better have better battery life, though I wonder how much the Wi-Fi will impact the run time. Though to be honest I charge my devices during the night, so as long as it has enough power to last a day I'd be happy.
I'm interested to see what the price and battery life will be.

You forgot the most important selling point - any track bought from itunes, will be available to you for free from microsoft's upcoming music marketplace (itunes music store competitor).

I thought Microsoft had said that it won't give you tracks that you bought through the iTunes music store, instead it can import music from iTunes that you have not bought from the iTunes Music store.

Lol the play for sue thing has no effet on me i never pay for music anyway, and it not THAT surprising that it wont play dvr-ms, mostly just because they're so big i have like 13 shows or less and they take up 30 gigs. They'res another thread on converters for it just look there and convert 'em. I dont think the brown looks that bad im just not getting one brown.
It would be nice if i could surf the net at school(even though im pretty sure they dont have a wireless they're but they're may be a unsecured network around there)I hear that the battery life is 6 hours(though ive heard more) and with wifi turned on only an hour, it would be nice if the screen were touchless, but i doubt it, though I will be getting one regardless.
Mostly because of the features, and because my nano was stolen at school, kinda kick myself in the pants after i relized i shoulda waited for ipod video to come out but i suppose its better that the theif didnt get that.(totally not my dault it was stolen had to go to gym dont trust the changeroom, though in hindsite it woulda been better, had to bak and get something halfway through and either just coincidence it was stolen after or it didn't lock properly)

Only 6 hours, that seems a bit pathetic. Even the LifeDrive can manage just over that (and that is too short), and it lasts a lot longer than an hour when surfing the internet on a Wi-Fi connection. I hope this isn't true especially as the 30GB iPod can run for 14 hours.
I don't buy much music off the internet either, I buy most of mine on CD's. As for converting I'm used to using iSquint (and ffmpegx) to easily convert video's to play on my iPod. Not that I watch much on it though. A 4in screen is the smallest I'd want to watch much video on, and even then I don't tend to bother.
Out of interest what draws you to the Zune and not some other player?
You should be able to buy any player especially as your not going to be tied to an online music store. And from what I've heard the Zune isn't exactly going to be the cheapest either.

I don't think it will be able to compete with the ipod just because they are so many ipod users that it wont have much of a chance. The way that apple is popping out ipods it has another ipod ready to top it. Its like vista vs. osx leopard... microsoft keeps on pushing its day back trying to catch up to a system that has everything working together. I have both a pc and a mac and I love my mac by far. >:)

You can't compare windows vista to OSX leopard. Vista is an entirely new OS, built from scratch, from the ground up. It doesn't use the codebase of any prior version of windows.widowmakerIts like vista vs. osx leopard... microsoft keeps on pushing its day back trying to catch up to a system that has everything working together.
Leopard on the other hand, isn't even an OS. It's an update to an OS. It adds about 3 nifty features to OSX. It's sort of like a service pack for windows, except the service packs are free.

Windows Vista is part of the NT family, and is supposedly built upon the Windows Server 2003 codebase.
I think I'm right in saying that XP is NT version 5.1, Windows Server 2003 and XP 64 are NT version 5.2, and Vista is NT version 6.0. So no it hasn't been built from the ground up.
It's very rare, especially for an OS to just chuck away all the old code and start again.

Apple hasn't yet (and won't) release all the information on Leopard until it's available or very soon before, though you are correct, it won't be any where close to the differences between XP and Vista.
Anyway back to the Zune.
I just bought a creative zen vision M and it can do all that the Zune can do...it has an awesome! screen compared to the ipod video
I heard about this on the news a while ago. I would get just cause it has FM radio and send stuff to other users.
I think when this gets on the shelves apple will be screwed unless it cost to much.

Its only gunna cost 299$ prob 399$ cause i live in canada.
For the battery life the other thing i heard was 16 hours which im betting is closer to the truth.
What drew me to a zune were a few things, the video capabilities which i know aren't that much different from an ipods, but i would have a large use for it seeing how i have an hour drive to and from school and other areas were i could use, and how my harddrive is always at at least 7 gigs left(been there since weekn half after i got it two months ago), and how i have about 40 dvd full of anime and whatnot. i do like the fm radio as well even though i prob would use it a whole lot. Another big thing is that i have a 360 and there going to be some interaction there. Theres other crap but im at my dads house on this crappy comp with an annoying keyboard.

I had a generation 3 Ipod that broke 3 times before I decided just to give up and wait for something new to arrive...so far the Zune and Creative's Zen have caught my eye, still trying to decide what to do...the only thing I'm sure about is I'll never touch an Ipod in the near future
