Seeking Opinions on Two Walls...

I don't plan on trying to submit these to this site (I need to get much, much better before I try that again), but I just wanted some general commentary/feedback on what I could do/could have done to improve them.
I think the first one looks filmy or something, but I think it's just the brush I used, so I don't know how to make it clearer. I like the second one better, but what do you think about the scan extraction?

Also, I have photoshop 4.0 and I havevn't quite figured out how to properly vector images. I've found tutorials, but it seems I don't have the tools they reference in my PS version. Anyway, I think this scan is too dark for that.
Thanks!

U can get the free trial of adobe illustrator or get inkscape they're good vectoring programs
To make the first on clearer you could mask the brush layer and blend some of the brush to the background >_0.
Try and upgrade your photoshop program to version 7.0 at least. Most tutorials won't deal with old versions now unfortunetely. I don't think it's going to be that exspensive since version 7.0 IS out of date now.
