Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

The next Call of Duty is subtitled World at War and developed by Treyarch.

It will feature co-op for the first time in the series and is heading to PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, according to the first details - spilled from the pages of GamesTM magazine and read by VG247.

The Nintendo version will be handled by a separate developer, we're told, but all will be built on the Call of Duty 4 engine.

Call of Duty: World at War is set back in World War II amid the Pacific struggle between the US and Japan.

Content is said to be as gritty and mature as any game around. Apparently the opening shows a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat and turning to dish out a similar fate to you. Is that gritty and mature enough for you? Is it?

There's no word on a date just yet, but word comes off the back of Call of Duty 4 managing to sell over 10 million copies and retake the top-spot of most-played game on Xbox Live from Grand Theft Auto IV.

Oh well, the wait for COD6 begins! Infinity Ward knows what they're doing.

I have no idea why you would hand the series back to Treyarch when;

A) They made the worst game in the series
B) Nobody cares for WW2 anymore

How many times do we have to replay the same bit of history over and over again? I don't care if it's grittier than any other it's still the same damn war which has been overdone for a decade. Let Medal of Honour continue to nitpick away at that timeline, COD should just concentrate on other things. That's what made COD4 a success.

I really have no interest in this game at all anymore.

I'm not sure if Activision knows what they are doing. You basically summed up how I feel. Infinity Ward started the series and did an amazing job, yet for some reason they get Treyarch to do two crappy console versions and a mediocre 3rd game. I fail to see, considering how well Call of Duty 4 did, why on Earth they would hand it back over to them when they are just going to go back and do the same old thing. It's like they looked at Infinity Ward and were like "Duhhh, this will surely get us a buck".

To basically answer your question, Sie, it's because Activision handed off part of the rights to another company. Infinity Ward has made the first and second games, along with the fourth. It seems to be an alternating thing, as of right now. So, that's why I'm waiting for CoD 6 =D.

I am so tired of WW2, ok, Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers were great productions, MOH, Battlefield 2142 and CoD were cool too, CoH good, but it's time to bring something new, hey, COD4 was awesome bcs it was modern warfare, it's the same reason why CS and Battlefield 2 were so succesful, to change the nazis for fundamentalists arabs and ultranationalist russians was a fresh breath, havent find something so funny set in "modern" times since EA made Generals Zero Hour.

I agree, going back to World War 2 for the plot is going to be a major letdown. The only reason I considered buying modern warfare is because it’s modern warfare. I know they don't want to set another game in the modern era, but maybe futuristic warfare would work out great.

Anyway I am glad to see co-op feature in the next game, which was one feature that should have been in COD4. If games don't include co-op or online modes they are bound to fail in this era of gaming.

They should bring the COD franchise to a close after this as well, it has started to become to played out and further adaptations will on serve to hurt their future reputation.

It may work if they went back to World War II, as long as the game is good, but since Infinity Ward is not making COD 5, I'm going to skip out on it.

I do have to say, I'm disappointed that they would decide to technically go backwards with the series instead of forwards, but I am interested because at least the fight won't be in Europe... AGAIN! But what I really am gonna hate about this game is the weapons, whoopity-doo I got my good ol' tompson or a M3 "grease gun", the same old springfield and M1 grand rifles... I mean I would love if they made it more interesting, like say for example Insomniac's Resistance, but I know that will never happen so this title will receive my official uuuaagh,(for trying a the same crap, only at a different angle).

Activision probably had a contract with Treyarch and Treyarch decided to to step in when the sells got good for the franchise. Whether or not they make it a good game will always be in question, but All we have to do is wait for Call of Duty 6. But I have to admit, the co-op mode peaks my interest ;]

Those crappy weapons are enough reason for me not to like the game.
I wonder how the sales are going to be affected since the game is going to be set in the pacific (japan and east asia). This is after all one of the most important areas regarding game sales.
MoHPA was dreadfull, the multiplayer was only part that was fun, but didn't last long.

I'm totally going to skip this. The only historical war shooter that i enjoyed was moh , where you do more spy missions than assualt missions.

I've always wondered why all the WWII game are set allied vs germans, I guess having it set in the Pacific would be pretty interesting. Jungle warfare instead of city runes.

Why do they wanna go back to the WWII settings?

It'll be a good change if they set it somewhere in the future.
Since it'll be in the WWII time, i guess the weapons wont be having much tricks on their own.

Hmm... I thought they would have realised that modern warfare was the way to go... = = Replaying history just isn't as fun anymore...

I hope they know what they're doing...

The biggest reason is because they are stepping backwards. Call of Duty started off as a WW II shooter and Infinity Ward took that to a new level. Something that was desperately needed, considering the market is overly saturated with WW II games. To do something like this to a series that has decided to push itself over, which is something few series do, proves how shallow of a company Treyarch is. They are just simply going back to a formula that sells, without taking a chance.
