Why VAlkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria was ranked so bad at GS??
Gamespot gave it a 8.0 a square-enix that's too bad, why would it be?
I agree that 8.0 is a bit low for this gorgeous game. I'm playing it at the moment and I'm lovin' it lol. Don't listen to one review, read some more and decide for yourself if you want this game. However, it might become rare like VP1 so I think you should still pick it up if you're a true RPG fan ;-)
Hmm..i guess it'll be fit. I got some problems with the battle system. The graphics great, music great, but the story is too heavy and sometimes confusing. If only tri-Ace make a battle system that could make us move freely like Star Ocean for this game, it will be great! But i love this game. And another thing that i mentioned is the lip sync on the character dialogue. It almost doesn't look like moving at all. Not that is a problem but that bothered me. And several local magazine in my country also gave kind of low score like B..i think it deserves bit higher score. B+ at least.. :(
The game is dubbed in English, of course their lips will not be in time with the dialogue. I have no problems moving on the battle field. Then again, Star Ocean IS a better game that VP. If you like Star Ocean then you should check out Rouge Galaxy, the battle system is kinda similar. It's a shame that Rouge Galaxy has not been released yet. It's the top game on my 'must get' list.

Gamespot and IGN are both biased...NEVER trust press reviews...enough said about that...
Silmeria is far from being perfect...as are all games, the battle system takes getting used to but once you familiarize yourself with it...it's fun, really fun

Silmeria is a gorgeous game that definitely deserved a higher score.
There is a slightly steep learning curve at the beginning and you need to power level to get the most out of the game, but the controls are tight, the story is intricate and the graphics are gorgeous.
As for the lip sync... Remember that the game was dubbed into English. From what I saw, the original had almost perfect sync.

It deserves more then a 8.0, that is for sure.
Normally one doesn't buy a game based on the tastes of some idiot who is paid for writte 4 phrases into some magazine...well in case he is enough smart XD aanyway another square-enix game ? oh no thanks i already have enough copys of cloud/squal . and the rest of "i'm a copy of the previous game with some more textures different design and some chantes on the storyline"

I say, is very good game but i have problems with the battle system and the dungeons are so lame so lineal even you can lost it has issues, but in general its a good game not great and 8.0 is a nice score
Prepostrous!
A haven't played a game as good as this in quite a while. The graphics are asolutely stunning and unique. Beutiful.
Not to even mention the Story. The Story was absolute good. Especially if you've played the first Valkyrie Profile.
Well, mainly, the game was made for the previous fans of the first game. So someone new to the series may not find Valkyrie Profiles charm. But truly, Tri-Ace really does not dissapoint. I've been a fan of their games ever since Valkyrie Profile on the PS1.
And one thing I really loved about this game is the music:
"Motoi Sakuraba’s work on Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria comes as something of a shock. As a composer more traditionally known for creating high-energy techno and electronica-inspired pieces, the symphonic style of this soundtrack is a genuinely pleasant surprise. The music works extremely well in its setting, creating a slightly melancholy feel to go with the towns and fields, while the dungeon themes tend to be a bit more hard-driving, adding in electric guitars and other decidedly non-symphonic elements. The most unusual tracks, however, are the combat themes. Widely considered to be Motoi Sakuraba’s strongest point as a composer, the combat themes of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria still hold to his energetic style, but show a degree of flexibility not previously attributed to his work."
Well anyway, you shouldn't really believe much of the reviews you read or watch. If you really want to judge a game, try it out for yourself and rate it yourself.

This game was pretty good, not amazing though. The new way of controlling your party in a 3D manner and then executing your attacks to the old 2D style from VP1 was pretty neat, but you couldn't really hit multiple of enemies at the same time with the conclusion of your party members all attacking at once.
The soundtrack fit the mood of most parts of the game pretty well. The battle music got some getting used to, but it actually fit quite well, even in long drawn out battles.
The storyline, it answers a lot of questions that people would have after completing Valkyrie Profile 1. But, at the end of Valkyrie Profile 2, it also generated a lot of OTHER questions. You know, like how does Lezard and Arngrim appear 200 years later, what happens to Brahms in Lezard's timespace and his whole illusionary Brahm's Castle in VP1, why Silmeria is encased in ice in VP1 (that still hasn't been answered), etc. I did like however was the fall of Dipan. That was pretty interesting to see, since in VP1 you go through the ruins of Dipan, and its time machine in the basement.
Gamespot has given the game an 8.0, I think it does receive something along the lines of it. There were lots of factors that weren't pleasing for hardcore Valkyrie Profile fans. There could have been lots more they could have done to the game, and even make their storyline a little less confusing than it was. Supposedly you can replay this game to about 50 times, because of Seraphic Gate, in how there's a unique item for every time you've completed the game up to 50 times. I don't necessarily see much replay value in this game past the first few times. I've beaten the game rather quickly, clocking in 72 hours in 10 days time, and I don't really have a reason to replay this game.

It should get more than an 8, but gamespot's almost never right. They'll also hype up some games if they're paid to... Heck, FF7 started with an 8ish score and they've been raising it throughout the years to a 9.5 now.

Well the game is very exsiting, it happends stuff all the time and you get surprised alot. Still a 8 / 10 is pretty good cause lately the reviews are so strict and it's so hard to even get the full pot. I remember the days when Super Mario 64 got 10 / 10 but I saw it more as a 9.5 / 10 because of some flaws etc :), but thats my oppinion.
This game is shaping up to be really good. I do have one complaint though which is that for being a 3D game side scrolling does it absolutely no justice. The game should be free-roaming because as much as I like this game I have a really hard time keeping up interest when all I can do is go left and right. This kind of thing is fine and works beautifully in 2D but is unacceptable in a 3D game when you see an area you desperately want to explore and find that you can't. Regardless I believe that an 8.0 is too low for such a great game and should have been given at least a 9.0 minus 1 point for the side scrolling.

Pffft. You guys are silly. The japanese dialog was off-sync as well.
Blah. Motoi Sakuraba did a horrible job with the music. Didn't like it as much as his other works.
I still think VP:S is alot better than say... FFXII.
