Will you Buy a Quad Core when they come out? AMD or Intel?

The Quad Cores are coming... Intel Has released some of there Quad Core Tester Setups...

If I have read the articals right:
Intel's Quad Core is 2 seperate Core Duos on a die, And AMD's is 2 X2 Cores Linked Via a Special Com-Transport so its more like 4 cores talking to each other
What does everyone think?

I won't. Hell, right now dual-core is overkill. I can't really see any applications using quad-core; services on the other hand yes... but what services on a typical home pc would utilize this, besides maybe folding DC machines?
If we had quad-core with specialized cores, like, dual-core for processing and maybe a core for something else like physics, and games took advantage of this - maybe. Something like the cell processor.
If any company takes full advantage of quad-core, i think it will be apple. They already have a PowerMac running quad-core via 2 C2D cpus.

I certainly won't be buying quad core processors for my machine when they come out, it will be way too expensive. Also the software needs to play catch up.
The Mac Pro also looks like it can be upgraded to use 2 quad core Xeon CPU's (Clovertown), AnandTech tried with some samples they have (though they couldn't post any performance ratings).

I probably would consider buying a quad core processor when they are released. I currently have a single core Pentium 4 so adding three more cores would definitely speed things up a bit. However the only downside to having multiple cores is that Windows XP does not have proper support for them and I don't see myself upgrading to Vista in the future, although I will probably have to because as a computer tech, I need to keep up with the latest and greatest so I can deal with problems when they occur.
Indeed quad core is currently overkill but the number of cores a processor has seems to be the most important issue for manufacturers, much like the megahertz wars which lasted up until a couple years ago. Vista should have proper support for multi-core processors so I'll consider my purchase after I see some benchmarks in Vista with a quad core processor.

Like yeah im going to buy a quad core when i just spent a million on a dual core, man people do buy these stuff like hell
Although I could really REALLY use 4 cores right now, I'm not going to be in any hurry. My main interest is going to be AMD moving to the 65nm process, so I'll probably pick one up when the 2Ghz model drops in price a bit.
When I get the money and when the right games come out, then yeah. A fast comp is a waste of money unless you use it for huge multmedia editing or hardcore gaming.

I just broke my cherry by buying a Core Duo Laptop.. I noticed a slight improvement in normal use, but the gains are in the gaming and code compiling... ( it might help that i jammed 2 gig of pc5300 ram in it too..)
As for the Quad core...
I think that applications will need to be more threaded in order to gain more performance in a quad core environment... or more virtualization..

Not to mention the K8-L's will also use a strained silicon manufacturing process, which is what makes the Conroe's so fast clock for clock.

I think just wait who is more faster but not too expensive... it may be from intel or from AMD. But if we see now at knowledge intel Conroe.. i think at quadcore, intel will win the battle between AMD and Intel. I hope quadcore CPU not have hot temperature and expensive.

I always have budget on my mind. Right now I probably won't get anything until it's support by software and such. I'm happy with my AMD Athlon XP 2800+ lol. It runs Windows XP fine and some older and less graphics intense games fine. It could also handle anime episodes fine :) I would mind having a dual core though. Those things will be future-proof. My uncle has a dual core laptop and it's pretty sweet. I would get one too if I had the money.

I've always purchased budget pc components, I'm currently using a Sempron 3100+ S754 and it's ok for most games and tasks (1.5GB RAM, plain Geforce6800) but I may upgrade to a Dual Core CPU (AMD most likely) since I'm multitasking a lot lately and rendering/applying video filters takes a long time in this pc.
If I get a better job I may just get a quad core !! :P

Wow.. thats uber.. really.. every programs multi tasked without problems..
thats cool processing powers.. as artimas said its overkill.. no lags no nothing,
just smooth pc operation with all the heavy programs running.. @_@
cant imagine my current pc doing that..

Well I would be counsidering buying Core 2 Duo because the power source is small than quad also in some
system it appears not working well than Core 2 duo

Not me. I really don't have any particular use for that amount of speed.
