This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Hi,

I want to start a discussion on BitTorrent. I want to hear from you guys as to why BitTorrent is great and if you think not I would like to hear from you also. I use it sometimes, but I never felt attached to it. So, basically I would like to hear why or why not BitTorrent is so popular. Also, what are the pro and cons of using BitTorrent!!

Thanks for you input!!

Its so great because you can get pretty much anything from video game, software, to anime all high quality and fast download. PLus if you lose one connection as long as it isnt badly seeded it doesnt matter. Theres the fast downloads, though you do have to upload i fall myself in the leacher category there, simply because my bandwidth is a 100 gig a month and im still going over while leaching.

I don't see anything wrong with using bittorrent, as long as what you're downloading is legal. I think it's good, don't notice really any problems running it with other programs. I usually use it to keep up with the latest fansub anime out there that hasn't been liscenced in the US yet.

Be careful about who or what you download. Some people are malicious and insert harmful trojans and viruses in the files. I suggest installing a software firewall as some form of protection. Some anti-virus software claim they work with torrents, but I never caught a virus during a torrent session.

What I like about Bittorrent is how it can make more efficient use of all participant's bandwidth and increase download speeds through sharing.

Actually ive been heavily using the torrents for more than five months now and i believe niether of the two viruses(i believe they were both trojans i dont remember) came from bittorent. If your really that worried you should already have some anti-virus program, but search your torrents through torrentspy.com first and look at the comments if it does have a virus most likely someone else will of posted warning and reported it which means it could already been taken off i believe(though im not too sure on that last point i havnt bothered to check)

1) Download a bittorrent client
2) Download the torrent file for the file you want to download (most bittorrent clients do not have an inbuilt search so you have to find the file yourself).
3) Open the torrent file with the bittorent client

here's some links:
Wikipedia article on BitTorrent
BitTorrent FAQ and Guide
Wikipedia Comparison of BitTorrent Clients

The last two links give information on the different BitTorrent clients you can use. I personally use a nightly build of Transmission, but it only runs on OS X and Linux.

I like the idea that BitTorrent was founded on, being that every client is a small server, and every client connects to each other. It's a far cry from the standard client-server setup that most things involving the Internet are set up around. So, score one for BitTorrent for doing something a little different and executing it pretty well.

It's my main way of getting obscure files, although I usually don't download a lot of things all the time. My main gripe is that if I'm connected to a lot of people, my Internet will just die, which can get annoying sometimes.

Bittorrent isnt inherently illegal. In that sense, every single download on the net could be illegal, from http to ftp et all, in the essence that they can and are used for illegal file sharing.

Bittorrent is a nice technology as it allows large files to be transferred without putting too much strain on the servers and their bandwidth, and is better than peer-to-peer in many regards.

As for why i use bt, i usually use it for linux distros and stuff like that, and use mainly irc for my anime needs. Still, sometimes, Bt comes in helpful for newer releases and bigger files.

There are many legal downloads, peer to peer as a way of transferring data is not illegal.

Bit-Torrent is good to download almost anything from music to videos and at a very nice speed.
Its search engine is well moderately good but this program has issues with firewalls.
firewalls can slow down your torrent download sometimes it takes hours just to start dowloading. But it is still worth using, just leave your com on all nite to dL or when your out.

To speed your dwonload what you might want to do is increase your connections to your computer and per torent to 99999 per. im running on vista and for some reason its always being limited but this keeps my download at a good rate.

It might help a little, but i would not really do that, as there are limited connections for security reasons. If you are gettign a slow speed, its probably because your firewall is blocking incoming connections or your isp is. Of course, that is assuming the torrent is healthy and has plenty of seeds.

Unfortunately, those new to bittorrent usually forget that last part. Many of my friends use to hate bittorrent, and complained that it never worked. i took a look and pointed out that dead torrents that cant even connect to a tracker arent likely to work.

I'd recomend bit torrent as it can download a lot of high quality stuff. I personally use it to get animes and movies. Seriously the best way to get those kind of stuff. Most of the time you can get high quality videos. Sometimes it depends on the fansubbers, assuming you download animes, that will determine the quality of the video (video quality and english subs). The speed is defintely an issue, it depends on how fast people are uploading the file that will actually determine your download speed. So ya you can have a pretty fast internet and still download like 15 kb/s. Back to my anime example. When I download my anime, I don't get them one by one, I get them all at once. So there's a good advantage for bit torrent, it can download a a whole mess of files and you'll be able to get them faster compared to the time of getting them one by one. Another good thing is that downloading file through bit torrent ain't illegal unless of course the file itself is obviously illegal then ya you know what to do ( not dl it). Other than that, bit torrent is a pretty safe and beneficial program to use.
