Best samurai anime for mine taste has to be ruronin kenshin of course. The great manslayer. It is an action pact anime with a great plot and of course a great deal of sword play. It has its commical moments but it more of action anime than anything else.

Well, let me say before this thread turns into a list fest I thought Samurai Seven the animation handled by Gonzo was bloody cool, employing a mix of media while going in between modern and old, it sorts of cuts out as special, although neither of the impressing bits actually reside in the swords itself, it is more impressing with the graphics end of the entire animation (which as we know, Gonzo handles like no other when it comes to action oriented anime), and the whole story is actually based off a real cool old time samurai film which has a lot of meaning for me. Since I have seen the original, to me, it was a refreshing anime to watch, to see the characters dressed up in armor, and to see them fighting robots and using their 1337 skills against the evil empire, while the whole story and backset calmly focuses on the characters and their way of life which is semi-traditional, it clashes yet seamlessly merges with the style and makes it really entertaining to watch.

yeap! Samurai Seven is a very unique anime.. especially if you have a wide genre in anime.. the OSt is great, the action scenes awesome, and the story is movie-quality.. and if it wasn't for their enemies, Samurai Seven is, truly, a samurai anime
~i once saw a anime magazine here in my country, rating Samurai Seven a whopping 94.7% in all aspects. cool. period.
~Samurai X is a great samurai anime, but what i dislike about it is the moment kenshin delivers the final blow, it's being depicted as a lightshow with flashes of light or something like that.. but that's just me XD

I think when you like samurai animes you must see "samurai champloo" its one of the best anime series ever. The mix of new sound. (Just in the opening) and the perfectly made martial arts are amzing. The animation qality is very high and charakters are great. (Especialy the charakter emotions are amaznig). Just say how much samurai series have in the opening a Hip Hop sound. :DD

that's true. i'll go for Champloo as well, its just so cool. when my friend and i were watching the fight scence, we winded it back and watch it again and again, it just couldnt be help. the anime's cool, Jin's cool Mugen's cool, its just soo cool.

Samurai champloo and Rurouni kenshin gotta be the all time best samurai anime.
Theres a few other also that come in mind like Ninja Scroll...hmm old samurai animes were da best :)

I think samurai champloo and samurai seven are my favorites. Rurouni kenshin is a classic and is so good so that is probably the best and most popular.
Hehe kenshin for me all the way and i cant forget peacemaker kurogane or samurai deeper kyo and champloo i laughed till i cried during that one episode where everyone got high off the magic shrooms and samurai seven i liked the old movie and the anime there all great shows =)

I like rurouni Kenshin I is the best Samurai anime
I like Samurai X more than Kenshin, its much more mature...

Rurouni Kenshin definitely was a pretty good samurai anime up to like the 65th episode, then the anime stopped following the manga's story, and it was nothing but boring fights and storylines after that, although some of the episodes in the last arc were quite funny, but other then the comedy, the fights were very disappointing to say the least.
Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal is definitely a must see for any anime fan. Seeing Kenshin's past when he was known as the Battousai is awesome. Knowing how he achieved his skills, the origin of his "X" scar, his past love life, and watching him kill with no signs of caring at all is just... wow... words can not describe how awesome this OVA is. The animation for this is also very well done, better than Rurouni Kenshin's.

Well, my favorite samurai anime are Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) and Samurai Champloo. Although I haven't seen Samurai Seven, I have heard it is really good.
The Samurai X OVA's (Trust and Betrayal & Seiso Hen) are really good and if you are a Rurouni Kenshin fan it is a must see. I just hate that they coulde'nt complete the whole Rurouni Kenshin manga into anime. However I would have to say that my best bad guy is Enishi from the Series and Manga. Even though it's an amazing anime would have been better if it was more bloody, vulgar, gore and mature, because a Samurai anime should be bloody that is a major element. Hope they make new animes like these nowadays!
