Are old games harder than younger ones?oO
Some old games are hard even now, if you play zelda for instance, but I think that the more games you play the easier it becomes for you to finish a game. You are aware of many tricks from old games. I think that they had better ideas before, much more fantasy. I mean, look at ff7, it was made 10 years ago and fans still talk about it. Every game though has its own system, maybe that's why it's hard; you have to get used to every new system of the game, the fighting system for example; the strategy etc
Hmm well sum old games were really hard, but thats cause they didnt have the tech we have now, they had to entertain in other ways. they didnt have huge worlds, or 100 weapons, hundreds of stuff to find or flashy graphics.
crappy example ==> kh1 isnt a new game (not old either) but its harder than khII, although khII has a lot more data in it than kh1. <== crappy example
i guess that as time went on games became easier but also bigger and more complex.

It's true. Old school games have had a reputation of being pretty challenging. CAPCOM was pretty notorious for that. Example, Little Nemo: The Dream Master. I can't get passed the 2nd level... I'm so ashamed.
However, I played Contra which I've always heard is insanely hard. I breezed through that game, even ended with more lives that when I started.
I think most of the difficulty from games these days come from the bugs, bad controls, camera and so on. Also, back in the day they only had maybe a joystick and 2 buttons, now you have controllers with 10 or more buttons and 2 analog sticks; making it harder for new gamers to get involved if you ask me.

Now games just spoon feed you what to do rather than actually making you think about what to do. For example games like super metroid where there was no guidance and you've got to backtrack like crazy all by yourself. Metroid fusion just told you everything and where go and when to backtrack. Bottom line is old games are way harder
Old games are really harder than games nowadays!! haha, i dont think i can finish any ols games now and the games now are all easy
(except for FFXII, i barely beaten it)lol!!

Yeah, older games are harder than the new games. Like the FF series, FFI-VI are harder than FFVII-XII. For me as a gamer, I would say that this is a fact. I don't know why, but maybe is the graphic problems make the difference on "whether you want to play" or "whether you don't want to play". Or is the secrets and the walkthrough of the games. For me, I would say is the walkthrough and the battle system of the games make the level of difficulty.
That's my point, don't know what the other else people will say??

This seems a matter of getting used to things.
I shall explain all in due time.....
Older games were harder back in "the day" because games were shorter and the lack of content meant the game had to last longer for different reasons. They made very VERY simple games innately hard just to prolong the span the game lasts for. This is all well and good, but it doesn't mean that the quality of the game is any better.
Games nowadays are long, sometimes TOO long, and catered to a larger audience, this allows for over simplicity while the hard core gamers like myself are left beating games in a few hours. This is a flaw in itself as well. This is not the case for ALL games, merely the majority of them. Look at Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 3. Games are not ALL becoming easy, look for the good ones.

This is very true. I haven't seen any games lately that are hard and interesting. Only graphics make them look better then the old ones. When i remember games like Terranigma (I'll give 1 euro for the guy who clears this game without the walkthrough O.o) on SNES, Crystalis (Ok, waaayy too hard..) on NES and Zelda 2 (If you haven't tried it, www.google.com and do it now.) on NES. I remember spending days, days, days and weeks infront of these games and still not being able to clear them. Nowadays we have games like Twilight princess (ok, 30h+ played and still not even near the end), Overlord (ha ha, too easy) and Command & Conquer 3 (Don't even try it, sucks).
Why are there no companies to make good old 8bit, 16bit and 32bit games anymore? Those rocked, rock and will rock in the future!

Old games are usually harder since in older games there's no "special features" that we see today. So basically like in earlier Final Fantasies, all you basically do is run, random encounter!! Press, attack for an fighter and magic for mages and that's basically it. Now, who's going to find that fun? They had to find something that would make the game somewhat interesting for players and that would be: making the game making the game much much more harder. In those times the fun part is finding a new tactics to defeat the boss/monsters. When playing olds games you have to consider the time period that it came from. Like Final Fantasy 4 if you have played old games that came from that time and then play FF4. FF4 will be the only game with a unique storyline compare to the other ones. If I recall correctly it was FF4 that started the anti-hero business. From here some series slowly progress and found it's uniqueness and today we have games that have unlimited possibilites to it, and that's the fun part now not difficultly.

Well I think regarding KH it was mostly because of disney. They wanted to make the game beatable even for little brats >__> I'm still greatful for all the secret bosses... the only challenge, else square had lost all their fans, cuz FF players face harder bosses and quests for usual... (even in proud mode KH was way too easy...)
Wouaaah , yeah man i always have this kind of discussions, bit always end in the same conclusion, the game company is trying to get more people or expand his audience, on way to do this is make the games more and more easy. And this not only from NES times, if you see the older games in arcades like "Rygar" , "Robotron" , "pac-man" or any old game you will notice that the dificulty to get next level always was growing, now this only happend whith the bosses (it's deppend of category of the game) even so the most of games has a maximun of difficulty that don't leave to gammers keep growing their skills.

Yes, back in the day all games were tough. I remember spending days trying to beat some Mickey Mouse game, then giving up because i couldnt pass some level. Nowadays games are more pretty than challenging, with exception. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were difficult. I gave up on Devil May Cry (stupid (#@*$@#(@* lava spider... why must i fight him 12378179 times?!) that one was very hard. Tried to gain upgrades and stuff but it just didnt help much. Also Dragon Quest 8 had some tough boss fights. You had to prepare for almost all of them. So yeah, ummm... games today are easier unless you find the right ones that rely more on a players skill.
Lol older games are damn hard. i dont remember beating any one SNES game i had T.T a lot of good speculations going around, but i think its just the poor programming and such that makes the games difficult.
In my opinion, for the most part old games are much easier. Back then they just had a joystick with one or two buttons with a game that could probably last an hour or less on a speed run. Now you got RPG's and stuff ranging from the 50-100 hour range. Although there were some old school games that were just damn hard...like Contra.
