Grand Theft Auto 4
Let's be honest. How many people are going to be locked away in their rooms all day as soon as they get this into their houses?
Mine's been posted and now it's just a waiting game for it to arrive in the mail.

I hate this series with a passion. It just gives birth to more Jack Thompsons that's all. No point in them at all, if I want random violence I'll play CoD 4 or UT2k4 or Steel Batalion.

How could anyone hate GTA?! Me, I'm getting it on Wednesday after early dismissal at my school. This game is going to rock! :D
I will be legally dead for 48hrs during this weekend, I don't care if I will be missed coz I'll be up to my eyeballs in GTA4. I'm really curious about the MP side coz I've been using the GTA SA mod on PC (SAMP) for sometime and I really love it! I hope it will be just as good.
This series does not breed more JTs, he is an evolutionary anomaly that will never happen again. If it does, I hope god will wipe the slate clean and start again.

I couldn't agree with you more, I also hate the randomness of GTA. My brothers both play the series and they do the same B.S. that almost everyone else does which is just drive around randomly and see what you can and can't do. Talk about a waste of time. I will not even acknowledge GTA as a franchise, nothing but a bunch of foul mouthed gang type plots. Not to mention the game play is always the same, not much creativity on Rockstar's part.
The last one I played was Vice City, and I don't think I've been more irritated and upset with a game or even in my whole life that with some of the missions there, I reached about 76% and it was absolutely impossible for me to go any further. Since then it's kinda boring and redundant, I have no idea how many GTAs there are after Vice City and i don't really care. And about the randomness, everyone does that at first but there's a point when you get bored of that and it's better to follow the *cough* story *cough* and do not-so-pointless missions.
So no, I don't think GTA4 will be good.

bwilnothing but a bunch of foul mouthed gang type plots
I'm sick of this game, just selling off gratuitous violence. The storylines all boil down to the same gang war, and everyone only plays this because they get to do target practice with all the local pedestrians. Give me a REAL game instead *goes off to play Rise of Nations or something*.

The game is indeed way to focused on the open environment, which is not a bad thing but at the same time is. Because of the major focus on the interactivity with the city and the people the games stories tend to be dry and played out. Some of them are so hard to follow not because they are complex but because they are all over the place.
The only positive point of the game is the weapons which actually are not that good either, the controls for weapons in the past were terrible, and the character controls themselves were lacking. I mean running from the police right down the road, or not having the capability to crouch down or take cover.
I'm interested to see how the game plays out but I'm positive I will not even waste a single breath on this dragged out fanboy franchise. Sorry but thats my take!

I'm not a big fan of the series, all though when I was first exposed to it I think I was playing GTA 3 and I had invited several of my friends over and one of them brought it over for us to play it, I think there were like 6 of us, but me and 2 others stayed up til like 5 in the morning just going around in the game and doing random crap.
But one thing that somewhat bothers me is that GTA 4 doesn't look that great in the graphics department, looks like something the Xbox or Gamecube could handle.

Wow, such anger here. Anyway, moving on.
I, probably more than anyone, understand what you mean here. I got to the same point, got so damned angry that I didn't touch it for a year or two until I picked it up again and just strolled through it casually. I'm told GTA4 has a completely revamped gameplay style so it's a lot easier so if you even mildly enjoyed Vice City, I think it's worth a rent for you.
Well, to be fair, GTA hasn't really been seen as a real game until now. Ask anyone and it's really just a fun entertaining game that you can take out your aggression on. Storylines up until now (I keep saying this as GTA4's could be decent) have been very poor and that's not secret and yes, that is indeed why people play it. Why? Surely you've felt angry over something once in your life and taken your aggression or anger out on something, that's what GTA is really. Bad day at school? Mow down a couple of pedestrians and you're soon feeling *slightly* better. It's just to take your mind off the real thing. People like Jack Thompson just read too damned deeply into the matter, if morons decide to go copy it in real-life then they were insane in the first place.
Again, all drastically changed. Like I said, you should rent it at least. It's only going to be a couple of bucks and it's not like you'll have it forever. Just another game to add to the list have-played-can-judge. Not that I'm a Rockstar salesman by any chance. Just some of the stuff people are saying GTA is crap about right now, most of it has been changed.
Seriously, dude, watch it in HD. The game looks amazing.

I have a friend who broke like 2 keyboards 'cause of that damn game.

You should see my PS2 controller, it's an absolute wreck. Got unresponsive R2 and L2 buttons because it seemed to land on those two buttons when I threw it across the room.
God, Vice City was hell towards the end.

That's what my FPSes are for and games like Quake 4 or something. Also, the Mortal Kombat series does this pretty well too, and the GTA series has not been one that releases my anger so much as UT2k4 has.

It's really to-each-your-own rules with what helps with anger release but I think you've got my point onto why it's appealing to others and why it's liked a lot by the common gamer.
Apart from the random genecide in this game, i kinda like it. although im not going to get GTA4. they're all about the same.
