Hmmm... I guess your father used the wrong word. I don't know exactly what, but "luck" isn't the right term. However, if I take your question literally, "Money or Luck?", I'd go for luck, because when you're lucky, you get lots of money and get to keep your life. :p

Money is everything. Call me shallow, call me narrow-minded, but even rich people can find wives/husbands they can stand with or even love to a small yet certain degree. Money = power and power = everything. That's just the world we live in.

Money = Power and Power rules the world! I've been told that only people that don't have it say that money isn't everything or money can't buy love, but it sure goes a long way towards filling up any gaps that may be missing in a person's life. Not that i'm in any danger of that happening to me of course.
Let's put it all into perspective. Name 5 international really rich people (insert celebrity names here); Name 5 really big/wealthy companies. Now name 5 not rich people not living in your country that you haven't spoken/blogged/commented or written to; Name 5 running businesses that aren't in your country that don't make mega bucks.
Bet you can name the wealthy people and companies but couldn't name the people or small business.
The moral of this story is that money rules that world. After all money also buys more anime/manga and i'm sure nearly everybody in this forum would love that.

A saying said,"Money is not everything but without money, we are nothing"
It's true that in this time, money is everything. Without money, you screwed. But that doesn't mean money can solve everything. If you're a rich guy and when you died, can you bring all of your richness into your grave? Totally no way. If you're still stubborn and bring your money to the tomb, what will be waiting for you are a bunch of tomb robbers.
Also, money can't help you to avoid death or bad luck. Money also can't but 'true friendship' and 'true love'. Instead, it will most likely invite lust, greed and envy from the people around you

True, that money can get us number of things, food, clothes, latest technologies etc.
But is this true happiness?
There are people in the world who are loaded with money, they spend their money on useless things to keep them happy, yet there are also people who have enough money to get by and are just as happy with what they have. So...i'm guessing it all depends on who and what type of person you are and what you think what money is worth in your life.

Uh yes. If money can make me not have to put in an honest day's work in my life, then I'd a be one happy SOB (sorry but I'm using one swear here). I'd be so happy to sit at home after college at age 20-something young and be able to provide for myself and my family while destroying people over X-Box Live in Call of Duty 4 all day. Crap son, money can make you happy. VERY happy.

I once came to the conclusion:
"Money can't make you happy, but i will make things much easier"
Having a lot of money is something that makes your life easier, but you can't say that money will make you happy...
I'm not sure if everybody thinks so, but it counts for me.
There are so many things in life that you can't buy.
Some classics: Love, true friends etc.
So i think you shouldnt spend all your life on earning as much money as you can.
It surely will make you happy for a short time, but it's by far not everything you need in life.
You should just focus on enjoying every day of your life, because we don't have much time on earth and we only have this one life.
That's how i think...

As I said in another thread, happiness does not relate to how much you have, rather to how much you want. Lets put it like this: The tickets for watching your favourite sport's team makes you happy and money buys ticket, ergo money makes you happy.
Now, you play that sport, right? (you know me, I have no idea what Phillies and Flyers are so I don't know what sport we're talking about) Wouldn't it make you happier to actually be playing in one of those teams? Can money do that? Nopes, you need to be good at it and a big slice of luck.
Money and power makes you happy if what you want is money and power, and money=material possessions, overvalue of material possessions=shallowness.

Yes. Money buys the work-out-equipment and a personal trainer to get in shape, a batting and pitching coach to get better at baseball or skating lessons to get better at power skating and playing hockey. Money buys the sticks to play hockey, the balls to pitch and the bats to hit them with. Money buys you the agent to get you signed onto one of the teams.
Money = Everything
There are two kinds of people when it comes to money:
1. Those who think it isn't everything, and so with that attitude end up with not much of it.
2. Those who accept the fact that it is everything, and therefore make it their goal to get it, which then makes their lives a lot more joy-filled. Why do you think people are so happy in looking forward to retirement?
