This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I haven't been on the computer in a while so I think I'll stay on a bit longer to talk ^^ I'll be right back, I'm going to try to re-start my computer and see if my MSN will run.

Hello to everyone!

Made that sound like a math question =P... @Iro: It went good, it was fun because a lot of people called in to ask questions and I even got to talk about my favorite baseball team for a bit =). I'm just very sleepy though, so I wasn't as energetic.

First of all, hello everybody ^^

Well, I prefered this time to introduce myself first by asking for criticism about my wallpaper. I wish to perfect my skills in this area and I wish that everybody can help me do so ^^

http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/1976/szayelaporrograntzfl8.jpg

If possible, please tell me, by being honest and critic, if this entry could make it as a submission into the gallery. Please tell me also what should be improved in order to have it as a submission.

Thanks for reading this message, and have a good day everyone :D

Well, to start the extraction needs work. It's little jaggedy and there's some white from the original background here and there.
Also, part of his katana is cut off... I'd either scoot the image down to cover that or re-create it using the pen tool.
(And there's either a texture on the image or the scan wasn't cleaned. If it's just un-cleaned go to Filters > Blur > Smart Blur)

As for the actual design... it's defintly an extremely nice use of brushes/whatever else you used (it's always helpful if you include a small "how you made the wallpaper" in your post so you can get better critique).
I cannot give you 100% sure response that the background will be accepted into the gallery as-is, but I personally think it would be. (Abstract wallpapers of this style are harder to critique, which again, it is helpful to know how much work you put into it.)

As for my PERSONAL advice... I think throwing in a couple more colors into a background is really nice (well, depending on what the wallpaper is/what you're going for)... for yours, maybe making the main colors black/white and having purple/pink details would look nice, or the reverse.
It's completely up to you, of course. But I think more colors shows more coordination and consideration.
I'd also do something fancier with the text... sometimes text can make or break a wallie. Try experimenting with small brushes and glowing effects. (Gaussian blur is your friend.)

Anyways, good work so far and good luck~~! :D

Actually, I used a render that I found of Szayel Aporro... But I can fix that.
As for the background, I used textures as well as a bunch of C4Ds (some gaussian-blured, some not) as well as Apophysis pngs.

The whole thing was planned in order to capture Szayel's motion.

As for the text, I did do Gaussian Blur.. but didn't want it to stand out too much.

I use Paint Shop Pro for my graphics...

But... I definitely take into consideration every line you put and am getting started on improving it :D

The image is kind of blurry, and it puts a strain on the eyes. part of this may be due to the outer glow on the character, which looks like it was made with gaussian blur. also there are spot where you can see the extraction needs attention. most notably around the head.

whenever you extract an image, go around the entire thing at a high magnification to see if there's something that doesn't look right, then zoom out to standard, to see if you should remove, i.e. if you still see it.

work on the image first then post the revision.

The image extraction definetely needs to be worked on (plus a bit of cleanup should work well), and you might want to brighten up the bg just a little bit.

thats all i can really think of
