How is Japanese Anime better than America Cartoons?
1 year 1 week ago
I've begun noticing american cartoons going for a more anime-style look, with the big eyes and the art style, the new transformers animated series, lots of cartoon network stuff... but for some reason i just dislike it.
it'll never be as good as the original for me, although samurai jack was awesome imo, the clone wars anime is a huge miss to me though...
they're trying, the story has a lot to do with it, and american story lines just seem so dumbed down to me... like they're targeting the wrong audience, or maybe i'm just too old for these things now...
oh how ADHD i must have been as a child...

In anime, how the characters are better than American cartoons.
Without that i think are better japanese anime, i love it!!
Anime is mighty..
cartoon is shitty..
cartoon is shitty..
That's freaking nonsense. Both styles have their good characteristics. It's just a perception of cultural differences. Besides, just because Japanese Animation is from Japan doesn't mean that every Japanese can identify with it. I would really be careful with that because it gave me some serious problems with former Japanese friends who didn't like my Otaku- attitude.

Anime had a wider audience so people of many ages can enjoy. Anime series have a theme to a show whereas cartoons have them but on a one show basis. Anime keeps things interesting since not everything is wrapped up in one show. It continues on the next show. Anime episodes complete a "big picture" where all/most mysteries and conflicts are resolved by the end of the series, not all in the final episode(s). Cartoons have a different conflict each episode and is resolved in that one episode. I really like anime but I also watch cartoons when I have time. I dislike neither but I prefer anime any day.

Guess it depends on where you live coz on tv, there will either be american cartoon or japanese anime. So if you watch 1 of them first, you will think the other is rather weird. but in my personal opinion, i like anime better. mainly because it has better storylines, its more well-drawn, better animation and special effects. Whereas american cartoon has simple storylines, cheaply-drawn, animation is average & the special effects is a bit over-the-top.

Anime usually has a better storyline fitting a wider audience
Most american toons are aimed at kids, hence the reason why it shows on the kiddy channels. These cartoons usually have no point to them, nothing to keep the viewer wanting to watch more. (other then the extremely cool looking cartoon figures fighting each other
)
Anime on the other hand has EVERYTHING! Cool storyline, cool characters, cool animations, cool music, they''re all just so CooL!

I don't think there's a better or worse when comparing the 2. It's pretty much different flavors of the same thing. I like american cartoons like family guy, futurama, and south park for their humor and lack of a storyline. You can pick up anywhere in the series and not miss a beat. On the other hand, i like anime for the storyline, art style, and fight scenes. I guess it depends on what I'm in the mood for at the time.

I reckon the Japanese have more imagination than the Americans.
I guess that anime own cartoons because of the art, and the story plot and I'm sure theres thousands of reasons why anime beats cartoons. But I do know the Japan creates about 60% of the worlds cartoons. Also I think when animes get dubbed by American companies, it ruins the original plot. But this is my opinion, I guess it depends on the person if they like anime or cartoons.

Anime are better than American Cartoons and ANIME INFLUENCED ANIMATION (BEN10, AVATAR, blabla) by its superior Artistic quality, great story line, kawaii characters etc.

This thread... sigh, just plain stupid... i mean of course Japanese anime is better then anything America could produce. The only thing they're good at is finding crap dubbers for Japanese anime to dumb it down to their standard.

Why i like anime better is because the storyline are far better than cartoons. Also, anime have a more imaginary theme to it like, casting spells, fighting with swords, all that kinds of stuff. Still, The avatar is one of the best cartoons i've watched and it ranks up there with all my fac animes.
I personally can't say I like all Japanese cartoons over all American cartoons, as I like cartoons from both for different reasons. True, American cartoons generally aren't linear and tend to focus less on storylines, but there are times when that's what I'd rather sit down and watch.
I realize you can find anime that fit this description as well, but they understandable cater their humor to a Japanese audience and contains many cultural subtleties tied to their humor, often requiring pop culture or historical knowledge before you get the joke. While I'm well acquainted enough with anime and Japanese culture that I could understand many of these "in jokes", I'm not always in the mood for that brand of humor.
And you can't tell me that ALL anime/manga are superior. ^^; I've watched my fair share of crappy anime - it's not as though every show is magically fantastic just because it's Japanese.

Most Anime in Japan is crap anyway. What we get licensed in Western countries is not even 15% of what is shown in Japan, many, many Anime debut and get canceled all the way because the TV ratings are just lacking. Surviving with Animation is a war, especially in Japan, as well as for the videogame industry...
Most foreign Anime fans are not even aware of how much is really shown in Japan and how much gets imported and licensed over there... sad but true
