i am a girl who really enjoys playing videogames
but sometimes its really weird when you are telling a guy you just met
that you are playing videogames .. his reaction is either one of those 2:
1: OMG thats so super hot
2: OMG a nerd

Hahaha, I think this is spot-on. Last night I was speaking to a guy (IRL) who's been trying to get me to go out with him, and one of the reasons he said he liked me so much was that I played video games.

"People always talk about how their girlfriends play video games, and I'm like: WHERE are all these girls who play video games?"

My response: "The internet, mostly."

I think there are a LOT of guys who would love to meet a girl who plays games, even though it seems like most posters here have only found guys who don't want girls to play because they're afraid they'll be beat by a girl. Gaming is something that a lot of guys really love to do, and having a girlfriend who shares that passion for gaming would really improve a relationship - like if a girl who was really into... oh, I don't know, Twilight or something - found a guy who could understand why she liked it so much and maybe share in that passion. Otherwise gaming can become a stumbling block, where you get situations where the girl grudges the guy for playing games a lot.

Well I'm a girl and play video games like need for speed or some fighting games sometimes i play teken or how does it call and the games i most like to play are the pokémon games (^-^).
But the boys i know doesn't like girls like me and that's why i think i haven't got some boys as friends (:o)

I know plenty of girls who play games however the vast majority don't play online because of the horrible sexism that runs rampant on there. It's quite pathtic and it's pretty much unknown that makes people act that way. Very few people act like that in person and it's quite sad that most people have the mindset of you can't see me I can act however I wish.

I don’t understand this reaction. I see this from time to time in places like GameFAQs. Some poster will have a username that indicates womanhood, and either that specific poster will make a big deal of it (“lol what’s so hard to believe? We girls play games 2! Gril power!”), or the neckbeards will (“HURR DURR NO GURLZ ON DA INTRAWEBZ!”). Chances are that she’s ugly, so there’s nothing to be floored about.

If it can be verified that she’s as attractive, well, the pathetic pandemonium is still for naught, as just because she happens to share one interest of theirs (which is no longer even exclusive to geeks, as there’s a good chance those “douchebags” that guys like blaming all their girl troubles on probably indulge in a bit of EcksBawks, or PSTriple every now, and then), the chances are still staggeringly low that she’d ever think of doing anything with the majority of GameFAQs users, or /v/irgins (/v/ is the video game board of 4chan which--you guessed it--is rife with bitter, basement-dwelling retards whose IQs fall in the double-digits ) sexual, or romantic, and that’s not even taking into account the distance/location factor. What these people need is some .45 caliber aspirin.

Also, while I know it’s joke, it's an unfunny joke. It's also an annoying joke for the girl gamers who are the butt of it, since their sex can end up causing a thread to derail unpleasantly.

I play along side about 300 other regulars in this Counterstrike Source server, and there's about 4-5 female gamers there.. All of which are harassed..

It's really pathetic of them.. I could probably rant for hours about it, but I'll just leave it at "They need to grow up."

But I do not play online games... One reason is that I've got not enough time, another that my OPC isn't good enough. But I play PSP or Nintendo DS on my ways to work, school or when i drive to my girlfriend. (Everything by train, don't worry xD) Today I played Resident Evil Nemesis again. I did forget everything, the last time is so long ago! ...hope my english isn't too bad^^"

I'm a girl. I really enjoy playing video games (especially RPG) like guys do. I don't have much time to study, read teenlit novels, shoujo manga, and decorate my own room. Have anything to say? lol.
I have been sticked out with video games since... childhood? Tetris, Sonic, Super Mario, Harvest Moon, until now. I don't intend to leave them, never.
Not only video games, girls these days also enjoy visual novels and even eroge. Yes, that's me and some of my friends.

My sister plays video games, especially rpg's. I don't have the time to play those these days, so she's picking up my older ones.

I don't play online much, so I'm fine with playing any kind of video games. Usually I'm asked by others for weird things when I play online, but I just ignore them and move on with my life, it's only a game after all.

There's a lot of girls who play video games these days. Their numbers are as much as the guys are. And don't underestimate girls, because girls can play games as good as guys, infact, some are better! ^ ^

Anyway, I'm a girl who also play games. I find it quite enjoyable to play all kinds of games (Still waiting for FF 13 and FF Versus 13; Can't wait to play them!!). Well, except for some games that doesn't meet my conditions.

But beside that, It has become a common thing for girls who play games. Of course, exclude girls who only think of "Oh my gosh! ...(pick a brand of famous clothing, ex: Mango, Gucci, etc) sale!!" or "Which lip gloss should I wear" or "Do I look sexy? What about my french-manicured nails? Pretty aren't they?"

Note : Believe me, I didn't mean to offend girls who talks like *ehm..* what I wrote above.

I am a proud female gamer. I have been playing games for years and I own all the consoles all the way back to Atari. Most of the time however I play as a guy when I play a game. Mostly because I don't like people knowing my gender and I want them to leave me alone. I hate the crap people give me when they find out I'm a girl and I wish to avoid that stuff. I also play a lot of games that normal girls don't play like the Shin Megami Tensei games or the Devil May Cry series, Or Rock band, or Guitar Hero, Final Fantasy, or Star Ocean or Halo, or Call of Duty. I think that all gamers need to get a hold of themselves and act more mature and not try to run people away. Just because a girl is playing a game doesn't mean she's a slut. It just means she enjoys that game. She shouldn't be afraid to tell people she's a gamer either. and if people who don't play games don't like it they should give us a valid reason why before dumping us or hating us. But just to let you know, when a female gamer dates a guy and they haven't been dating for at least a year I can almost guarantee you that she loves her games more than the guy. Cause her games will always be there for her.

Its a sad thing really, but some people gain an insane amount of confidence when they talk smack behind their monitors.

I've played with many female gamers and even met a couple of them in real life. Many of course have been harassed by those perverts but they've grown to just ignore. Its pointless to get all worked up about when you can just destroy them and make them jealous.

I think its a good thing that more and more females are gaming, it really helps expand it. Its disappointing that there will be those online jerks that thing they are the coolest thing that ever touched this planet but hey, it is what it is.

I'm a girl who not only plays video games, but I collect as well. I have 16 systems and over 250 games so far (would have more if I hadn't had to sell some. Long story). I used to be a VERY active member on GameSpot.com and I worked at a GameStop for little over a year. Also have a Final Fantasy Vi tattoo as well. So, needless to say, I love video games. Sadly, when I tell guys all of this they still get shocked. There are a ton of girls (38% if I'm not mistaken) that play video games. Sure, many play casual games but WHO CARES. Everyone has a right to play what they like as long as they are having fun.

It's a shame theirs so many immature gamers that make it a frustration to play online cooperative. I think everyone deals with it to some extent though considering I've dealt with racist to just your run of the mill jerk. I can however say you have a good point since I've seen a couple instances first hand over xbox live of perv's giving the lady gamers trouble. Hopefully as more female gamers start to play online these instances will decline gradually.

When I play games online I usually just either choose a male character or just state that I am male just to avoid the pervs
