Is it possible to fall in love with an anime character?
I think that really faaling in love with an anime character is not possible, but becoming obsessed most certainly is. It's the same as having a crush on a celebrity I suppose. You start by watching the programs/films they star in (in anime's case, hunt down the manga), then spend hours on the internet looking for pictures and adding yourself to forums to discuss that character. This swiftly moves on to merchandise, fanart, fanfiction etc.
I think many people have done that to a certain extent, but then getting an emotional attachment is quite different and thats probably as close to love as it gets. Becoming jealous of another character for example, or crying if your favourite gets hurt. I still think this isn't a harmful level of fandom but it can begin to consume. Perhaps that is what you would call love...but for me...I think it's just being obsessed with a fantasy.

!!OH MY GOD!! Is not possible, that only can be a fantasy. We are talking about a peace of paper or machine codes.
You sow that in other anime? If is a fantasy can convert in a obsession. That is really truth. Psychiatric problems. !!JAJAJAJAJAJA!!
Well, falling in love seems quite impossible to me, because you can't talk with it and you only see her/him in the animé. Obsession is possible, some people are so fan of a character which results in a fanpage or fanclub or something like that. But falling in love is impossible.
I remember when I was young, my best friends were in love in anime characters from sailormoon :3 (I am dead inside. I didn't found any character or hollywood actor who I really liked to call it "platonic love"). We used to print images and make some kind of "bible" with it. Though, this is how I began making my own personal image collection when I couldn't afford to buy an artbook (I still print stuff and paste it on a huge book I have as a character design reference :3 ).
I want to make an example of this: The Twilight series.
How many girls are in love with this vampire...for real? (not the actor...the character).

Lol I agree about the obsession thing o__o Tsk.. I guess a lot of people don't know how to define love anymore.. T__T Infatuation and obsession are very different from love.. some may think it's love but it's not. o_o I think some teenagers are stupid claiming that they've fallen in love with Edward or Jacob or Harry Potter or some other character since love is very different from like or crushing on a person/actor/character or whatever.. XD
It most certainly is possible. Sticking with a series and connecting with those characters is inevitable. Even going so far, in certain cases, as to fall in love with them. One of the those that sticks out in my mind is Wolfwood in Trigun. He's ruthless and violent in comparison to Vash but sticks with him despite him refusing to kill or how goofy he is.
If I would be obsessed with a real life girl, that would be very trouble some for the girl because obsession often results with stalking... so falling in love and obsession is indeed different. So I guess I agree with Animaniac525
I guess... not. A character always is fictional, so the feelings too
No., its not possible., but you do like them.,
-like and love is different.,
-like and love is different.,
It's just a big admiriation
some people think it's love but when you see another anime which turns into your favourite, you start feeling less and less for the ohter series.

I think it's possible, especially with idealised people whom on-screen characters represent. People fall in love with ideas all the time. Maybe it's not like real deep love, but more like a crush. It sure enriches the life. :)

Well... i think, that it is possible, cause there are too mad fans, called otaku in our society.. But, i think, that it is sick, to fall in love with anime/manga character, simple because it is an character, not human, or smth. You can fall in love with person, that reminds you that char, but not same char. Well.. hope you understand what i wanted to say.. :D
Well you can’t call it “love” but yeah “obsession” takes over sometimes but it lasts only for a while that’s all.

Since 4th grade I've fallen in love with anime characters. So, I didn't think it's impossible or weird at all.
In my mind, humans are rather, troublesome to be in relathionship. So when we see the ideal character in anime, we would prefer the fictional rather that the non-fictional.
Well, at least that's my opinion. Every human has different minds after all......

It will sound cruel but I'm doing this for you: get real!
If you fall in love with an animated character you see as ideal you will never find a real person good enough for you! And now I'm totally hypocrite because I never fallen in love with any of them, also think a lot about them-at least the currently ones I'm at the moment watch or read- but never found a good enough someone for myself either and don't misunderstand me I don't place myself anywhere near that high I only never felt more than a crush. To place yourself away from reality is seriously not good and the advice I can give is: it's okay to be thinking about fictional characters and such(authors do all the time and we are grateful for that :D ) but don't mistake it for actual falling in love and so on...
