Is it possible to fall in love with an anime character?
I would say, one would need to define what constitutes "love". You can strongly like, admire, or be attracted to an anime character, but is it really love? Y'know, real love, like what one might feel for their mom?
I don't think so, the character isn't real, and you're not really interacting with them, you don't know them and they don't know you, they may be a part of your life in a loose sense but you're certainly not a part of theirs. I wouldn't give up my life anytime soon for an anime character, that's for sure.
If it's considered love in any sense, it's way at the bottom of the love ladder, somewhere between my love for a good book and my love for pizza.

tenkenThere is a similarity between loving a fictional character and loving a dead person. Both the dead and the fictional exist in the thoughts of the real and living. Hence, our manner of interacting with the dead is like unto the manner of interacting with fictional characters.
Interesting. However, I'd still argue that love for a dead person is derived from interaction you had with them while they were alive. That interaction is something you can never have with a fictional character.

Ask Japan and their facination with Mio Akiyama.
I would have to also say no,
that's just speaking from me of course. It'll take some sort of physical interaction, conversation, and life experience for me to fall in love with someone. No matter how deep one gets to know a character on screen.Admiration for a character, absolutely! Creating a bond as powerful as love, I think not.

I think it's possible. I was diggin' Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 for years! ^_^

It's fine to fantasize about fictional characters, but when you start comparing them to real life interests, take a step back.

you could say anime figures can show your ideal type
and in real life it's harder XD

Well to fall in love is totally different but a crush is better to say in terms..i love my bishie but it isnt love like how I loved my bf its a crush
It's an interesting question.
You often hear of stories of Otaku from Japan who are completely obsessed over one particular anime girl. However, I don't believe it is real love. It certainly could be attachment, lust or something similar to a crush, but I don't think it is romantic love.
From my own experience, there is one anime character I really like. I have posters of her up everywhere, heaps of merchandise and figurines. I'm probably obsessed, but I don't believe I am actually in love with her.
So, in short, no I don't think you can truly fall in love with a fictional character.

Can't say I have personally found myself in that situation. But It could be possible, since there are a lot of anime characters who have personalities and life experiences we can relate to, and usually when people fall in love its with people they can somehow relate somehow to... so I wouldn't discard the idea that it can happen to someone. I just hope it doesn't happen to me cause that would be kinda heart breaking in more than one way XD
I would say yes there is a possibility that one might fall in love with an anime character(of course i fell in love with belldandy from AMG,and saber from fate stay night),but there are different levels of liking an anime character,i think it's because what we expect from people in reality to be like the people in anime, like you can't expect find a boy who's down right handsome and a great athlete but not a total asswhole(i might be wrong),and a girl who bust is larger than the whole class and they are natural(again,i might be wrong),so people might fall in love with anime characters.
Love, yes? Real love?, no. This is just my opinion but there are many things that build a love. And something that plays a big part in it is physical interaction. Holding hands, hugging, kissing, etc. It really helps to build and make love feel real. And well sadly its just not something we can do with our beautiful anime characters.
But geez it would be nice..lol.
But I would say its possible to I guess puppy love or crush on an anime or any other fictional character. Just the same as hollywood actors/singers who we know we would never have a chance with..lol.

Honestly, I don't think so. Infatuation is a possibility and with that might come obsession. However, actually loving an anime character seems bizarre..
