I would defend longbow's statement. I think, there are some guys who really preferred girls w/ long hair, and vice versa, but I know a lot of guys who thinks that it depends. But personally, I prefer short hair. Cause like longbow said, when it grew long it becomes a nuisance. My dad says they like gals w/ long hair because they look feminine, but for me it still depends.

First off I would like to say I'm a girl with short hair and I'm proud of it.
Now for me I'm one of the only girls at my school (2 out of lots actually) that has short hair. I have short hair because I'm in a lot of activities, I have a tight schedule and I don't feel like messing with my hair all time. However I don't think that's it's long or short hair that a guy looks for, it's how you portray yourself with that hair. I have a lot of guy friends and I hang out with them a lot and they don't care what length your hair is. They just want someone who is confident in their hair style and aren't afraid to show it.

From my point of view though I think that long hair is associated more with femaleness because when people see short hair that think of a guy not a girl. I'm a very flat-chested girl and I get mistaken for a guy all the time because I'm not super girly. Guys tend to associate this with a girl not being interested in them, but instead wants to be one of them. Now these are just my points of view and I'm sorry if they are a bit hard to follow

Hmm... as a "guy" I prefer "short" hairs... as long they aren't too short :P Girls with haircut similar to that of boys aren't in my type... well hairs with length more than 5cm are OK :)

I definitely like girls with short dark hear (i have NO attraction to blonds at all, lol). I dont really know why maybe i'm just odd. But i like girls that are a little bit tomboyish. Prepy girly-girls just make me go "wtf is wrong with that retard" haha

Totally depends on the girl. The more androgynous ones look better imo with short hair. But it also depends on the face and so on.

As far as I’m concerned… I loath short hair on girls, and wish they’d stop with it. I rarely ever see girls pull it off. That’s just me, though.

Because it’s feminine. There’s nothing inherently feminine about long hair, but it just so happens that most people are socialized into associating long hair with femininity, hence why most dudes prefer it. There’s not much to it, really. I can’t answer how long hair came to be associated with femininity, though I’d like to know that myself.

Not really. Like I said, guys are conditioned to want femininity, and long hair is a telltale sign of that. It’s not really anymore different than girls who want guys with money (indicator of status), or a fit body (indicator of strength, and will).

Besides, shallowness is an overrated flaw. There’s reasons why we have these standards of beauty, and they’re far from arbitrary. No one can really be blamed for seeking partners who fit these standards. After all, they were hardwired into our brains, and have existed for centuries.

Besides, it’s just hair. It’s not like an unhealthy body image, something that demands harmful sacrifice.

No, they don’t. At my school, there’s this chick who’s hair is really short, but with a feminine bent to it… she’d look way, WAY better with long hair.

On the flip side, girls, what do you think about short hair on your fellow females? I've heard that some girls think that a girl with short hair is praised because she's not competition. I think some girls really do look better with short hair. I think it looks healthier and suits their face and/or personality better.

In a nutshell, my answer is both Yes and No. Its really about personal freedom & choice for the wearer & observer. I believe its also more of an emotional response being part of human nature.

To elaborate, I have long hair and like it that way. Its actually easier for me to take care of than when I had shorter hair, (No worrying about needing to get it cut. When I'm working or doing chores its easy to put it up in a bun or ponytail.) And I've usually received compliments from guys on my hair, while I get lectures from gals how I should donate my hair to charity. Odd but true. But, the guys who've complimented are usually family, friends, work friends, (or little children). The younger girls like to play hairdresser, which is always fun for us both.

It took me years to grow it out and yes I'm proud of it. Do I think I'm better than other girls who have shorter hair. No, but sometimes I think they'd be more attractive if they also had longer hair. Its a personal thing and people have the freedom to do what they want with their own hair.

I used to have long hair.
But I recently had it cut since taking care of it has been a nuisance. I do agree that it's more easier to tend to than long hair--but I'm one of those girls who just doesn't go well with short hair.

I actually miss my long hair since I did look more feminine. But that's just me speaking.

Well it really depends on the girl.

Each girl has a different body/face structure that demands a different hair style/size, you know like long hair don't fit short girls (like Konata), but short hair make them look gorgeus, also the face is very related with the hair style, it all depends on how do you feel more comfortable, and if you find a style that makes you feel happy then that would be enough if you are happy with your hair and accept it, then others will accept it to ^^.

Personally I like both styles, I mean I really like girl's faces so if they have a hair that suits to it then I'm fine xD

Definitely not true. I would say that the lion's share who I've been attracted to in my life have short hair. I would say that this is true in anime too.

Heeeeeeeey! Well, I like the discussion topic you put up. Really cool. To me, it actually depends on race. As an asian, I'm used to guys being a lit-tle feminine; like, sort of long hair, dying, styling and everything. I like that. But in the occidental side of the world, all guys are really manly. Short hair, act macho, no long hair, no pampering, nothing. :C But for some reason, I think that "white people" (well most) look really cool with dreads. Like, a lit-tle past their shoulders.

I really don't care. Even though she doesn't sound like it, my girlfriend is really masculine and I'm more feminine. ^^; But I still like girls who are really girly. I can't really describe what attracts me to someone. Though I do agree about the asian part she said. Asians can pull off looking feminine. Most occidental people can't.
