Depends on the girl. Some girls can pull of short hair, and some unfortunately pull it off.
Basically, this is a generalization, such as guys like girls that look like models.
So, I think it is dependent on the guy at hand, and the girl at hand, just like with all the things that a relationship deals with.
Personally, I like girls with medium hair...hair past shoulder, but not so long to be to the small of her back.

I think that almost everybody is better with long hair. I'm not saying that girls with short hair looks masculine or something, but the waving of the hair with the wind can just hypnotize you xD

Well.. I hate to generalize but I somewhat adore long hair... it is not that I do not like short hair on females... Its just that I find that the majority of females that I happen to stumble across would look a lot better with long hair... makes them look somewhat better... I do not know how to describe it...
HOWEVER... I am not saying that short hair looks terrible on female, SOME just suits long whilst other suits short... you gotta find out whats your type, long or short... kinda like finding out whether you are a dog person or a cat person.

Hmmmm... Some girls look good with long hair, some with short.
It doesn't matter to me, but the girl has to have a nice subtle feminine smell to her hair.

For me (as a man) I believe that its very VERY rare for a woman to be able to pull off the short hair look. I generally dont find women with short hair attractive, though there are definitely exceptions to that. I find it a bit weird myself, but theres something about a girl with long hair that makes her all the more sexy. I knew a girl that used to look BOMB, then she shaved all her hair off and now shes kinda meh. Thats just how it is

I think slightly more than half the time, i prefer girls with long hair. But it really depends on the person. I have a few friends where I would never have imagined them with short hair, but when they did cut it short, I thought it looked better than them with long hair.

My first love was a girl who had a short hair when I was in Grade 5 & 6. I think I'll have to disagree with them.

(Base on our country) If her skin is dark and looks masculine (disregarding the hair even though she isn't), short hairs don't fit her (I think so... I kinda forgot. Our classmate, who had her hair "accidentally" cut, was tall and skinny. The hair before he had her hair cut was long. It fitted her especially for her body build and gave a good impression on her (it was the first day of school). After it was "accidentally" cut, it made her look weird but we got used to it especially because she looks like a feminine would and acts like one so it's only her looks but doesn't make her look masculine though.

I think any generalization when it comes to preferences is inaccurate. You can make a statistic of it, but if you follow statistics too much when it comes to preferences, it's hard not to stereotype people.
Personally I'm an individualist, so I really don't think generalizing such things can ever truly be accurate, since some guys will like long hair and some guys will prefer short hair, no matter how good looking or ugly a person looks with or without said hairstyle.

In my opinion, the question is not whether a guy prefers long hair over short (or any other hairstyle), but what kind of woman a guy prefers. Hair, together with clothing and general attitude/behaviour, is of course a very important way of expressing who you are. Short hair makes you look tough and independant, whereas long hair can make you look more reserved (unless worn in a ponytail).
Surely an equally important question is whether a hairstyle fits a girl, but again, I think men are more likely to fall for the overall look and attitude rather than the hair itself.
If you'd ask me, I just prefer girls that look like they can take care of themselves. Short hair is usually a good sign, but I like ponytails as well (Tomb Raider syndrom, probably). Depending on the rest of the body though, even with long hair you can pull off the right look.

Indeed, it's more about the face shape and the personality matching with the hair than the hair itself. Sadly there arent enough girls who can successfully pull off the short hair look but when they do... omg so cute..

but, i feel sorry for the girl though, must be a pain in the ass, hair in their eyes, comb it, wash it throughly and what not.
still not answering the question though: i am not sure myself, it depends on the girl. but i am content with anything really, im not so strict on myself what to prefer and what not to.
at least i know that girls don't have a huge hair problem or a ''bad hair day'' when it's kinda short.

As a girl, I don't particularly think anything about someone having short or long hair. I just judge by how the hair cut suites the person. Usually when you have a roundish face, its best to keep your hair long, but if you have a pointy face short hair looks amazing.

I'm not a guy so I wouldn't know but I think it depends on the person on what they like about someone. As hikarichan said, it's a matter of preference. :D hehe :) I guess there are people who like long haired girls more than short haired girls but that doesn't mean all or a majority of men like 'em.
