As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

I need to finish a wallpaper this week-end for a change. @~aki: For VD#4, we accept external source scans for the vector or not ?

Is hard to say anything from a 800x563 image. Esceccially if you really vectored it, is required to see the full resoluion compostion. Currently from my view it doesn't has any trace of vectoring there, and background is too plain.

Thats not a vector, is nothing other as a simple render which can be done in much less time, since you only extract it. A vector is a complete recreating of a image. Renders also can be used in wallpapers, when the basic source is enough big and was properly cleaned, but cannot be compared to vectors in the terms of quality.

Heya :)
Theirs plenty of different ways to vector trace, here's a really detailed general guide to vectoring in Photoshop, maybe a bit complicated for getting started, but you might find it handy.

Personally I prefer using Illustrator, something like this might be a good place to start vectoring in Illustrator:

Good Luck :)

Just be careful with auto trace features in Illustrator and similar vector programs. They can get the job done on simple shapes, but complicated drawings almost always come out looking like it was "auto traced". It's hard to explain what I mean by that, but let's just say that if you intend to auto trace, then you better have good knowledge on how to fix your curves, points, etc. where the trace didn't do so well. Just don't use auto trace and think you're done, there is always touch up work required.

I prefer to draw everything manually with the pen tool or drawing tool, but that takes a lot of time and experience with making vectors.

To do a vector wall it does not mean the focal also has to be vectored, you have to use shapes or vector brushes also. Vectoring is hard as in photoshop you would have to use the Pen Tool. So if it is on photoshop then try to learn how to use the pen tool, also hair is the hard part of any trace, harder when it has a lot of detail to it. So Good Luck to you on learning to vector trace (^_-)b

Vectorize an image could be very important becouse you can transform it bigger without problems of quality... infact shapes have a sort of math control; contrary renders are in pixel count so if you try to transform they on big way there will be a lot of problems about they quality... I suppose this is why in animepaper vectors are very important... It is not easy to vectorize an image and I quote what Niki have written; it needs practising more and more.

Oh so this is a render, mha bad, Yeah if you wanna do a trace(vector) I suggest you do it on Illustrator, a hard thing to do, I tried it once and failed.
