2 years 1 month ago
I havn't been really doing that much listening to music for the past few months mostly because i've never been that into music, and because my nano was stolen at school. But as of late i've been feelin like listening to music while im doin something or playing on the 360, and also cuz ive been listening to some of the sound track from bleach
And since i basically am broke and dont like paying for thing i can get free, whats in your opinion the best free music downloading software?
Some reasons why might help me decide.
,thx!

Winamp may be the type of thing you're looking for and is legitimately free.

winamp has a search and download for free feature?hatesyouWinamp may be the type of thing you're looking for and is legitimately free.
It appears I've misinterpretted your request for asssitance with piracy. No further assistance will be forthcoming.

Well since downloading music is legal in canada its not pirating for me.
WinAmp5 has this radio-station -feature if you have enough bandwidth. If you want to download the stuff, you can always use BitTorrent (and a client like uTorrent or ABC).
They all contain some type of down side, Kazaa is free as long as you contribute soemthing, its like Anime-paper style, I would reccomend using non, just get iTunes, the songs are only 99C, and thats cheap for one song... Some of them are even 20C.

Soulseek is a free p2p. I've scanned it a bajillion times and I havn't gotten anything about of it. However, the sound quality is different per file, so you won't get a steady stream of highly encoded music.
There's a service called Spiral Frog which should be coming online sometime, it's going to offer free music legally, but you will have to watch adverts while music downloads. The music will be using Microsoft's DRM so the files will only be playable by Windows and compatible MP3 players (not iPods).
The service is either sponsored or run by one of the large record labels, I can't remember the specifics though. Also the amount of music available via this service will (at-least at the beginning) be a lot less that the amount available from the iTunes music store.
This is of course completely useless to me as I don't have a single compatible device at the moment.

im not too surprised that microsoft is doing that with non ipod usable seeing how they're comin out with the zune, though its almost pointless in this day and age just google a a converter or videora and its pointless. though for now im going to use ares to download my music. can't wait for a zune here my ipod was stolen and i've only gotten my tunes at my comp for the last 3 months.DeepDragoonThere's a service called Spiral Frog which should be coming online sometime, it's going to offer free music legally, but you will have to watch adverts while music downloads. Bearshare lite. I use it to get songs that don't exist in online stores. It's like kazaa lite. The regular version has spyware in it, the lite version doesn't.
Azureus client for 'torrents work well :\ Although the best way is definitely to buy the music off of iTunes or Rhapsody or something.

Microsoft isn't doing this, as far as I know the only thing Microsoft has to do with this is that their DRM is going to be used, which isn't really surprising as Apples not going to licence theirs. You say to just Google a converter, but you'll have to crack the files DRM first (unless you can do the same thing as Apples, burn to disk and re-rip).
