Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!

I like metroid, and the concept of it. The music is fantastic. Weapons and upgrades are sweet. My Fav creatures are Metroids (any type of species), and my Fav boss was Meta-Ridley. My two most fav games are Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime. I especially can't wait until the upcoming game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in August. What do you guys think of metroid?

I loved the NES and SNES Metroids. But I couldn't stand the Metroid Primes... They just weren't my kind of game, I dunno. I played the NES one a bunch cause it was pretty friggin' hard. The SNES one was rather easy though. It was fun trying to beat it in less than... uh, I forgot how many hours. But if you do it you get a special ending.

Super Metroid was one of the best games on the console. Very very good game.

And I loved Metroid Prime. The game was near perfect. If the game had more storyline, it would be my second favorite GC game (after SSBM). But the gameplay was great, graphics were great. Alot better than Halo, IMO.

Prime 2 was more of the same, but still a good game. The Dark Aether place was kinda annoying, since you kept losing health there. Plus, lack of Ridley made me frown.

Metroid is awesome, all of them. Metroid Prime 2 had crappy music though, hopefully the people that did the music for MP1 will do it for MP3

As a hardcore fan of Metroid, I must say that my most favorite title of the series (and one of my most favorite games of all times) is Super Metroid. It has everything:

-A balanced gameplay, so not that experienced players can beat it without problems, even if they don't find all the items. Of course, the most necessary items are easily obtainable.

-A lot of moves that add a lot of gameplay. The triangle jump, the bombs technique, the Speed Buster, even the grappling beam.

-A giant world to explore, and even though it has some known zones (Brinstar, Norfair, Tourian), they're extremely changed (even though you can still see some locations from Metroid 1, like the Mother Brain lair), plus new zones like Maridia and that strange wrecked ship thing. Most of the secret zones weren't that obvious to find, like that small way that leaded you to an energy tank, at the beginning of Crateria.

-An extraordinaire soundtrack. Probably the Metroid with the biggest variety of songs ever. I was surprised when I noticed a lot of the tracks from the game weren't based from the original Metroid or Metroid 2 (except for the main title theme).

-The most impressive visuals the Super Nintendo is able to achieve (along with Final Fantasy 6), filled with a variety of graphical enviroments and effects. The battles with the bosses are a proof of it.

-Talking about the bosses... yeah, some of the most imporessive and thought battles you can encounter in a Super Nintendo game.

I'll try to write something about the other Metroid titles in a near future.

I think one of things Metroid's done well throughout the entire series is giving a sense of isolation that few other games can match. There's always the constant feeling of "I am alone and I have no idea what's around the next corner." I'm pretty sure Metroid wasn't meant to be a scary game, but knowing that you're going into that uncharted part of the map, without much energy and with only a few missiles left, can invoke just as much fear as intentionally scary games.

Definitely well said - Super Metroid was an amazing game.

I loved Metroid Prime. Prime 2 wasn't as good as the first one, but still a great game in its own right. Corruption should be amazing whenever it comes out, especially with the new way of gameplay with the Wii Remote.

Metroid Prime is excellent, too. From what I can tell about it, the developers tried their best to achieve the same balance in difficult level from Super Metroid, and... well, even though the final result is good, considering that the formula applied for this game was new for the series (first person adventure gameplay), that added some more difficult to the game. Of course, the final result worked in a magistral way, and we got the best game for the Gamecube (in my opinion of course).

I don't know why they decided to increase the difficult level in Prime 2 Echoes. I don't complain that much about it, but it made the game less newbie-friendly and kinda more frustrating, even for Metroid veterans.

I agree with you, I thought Metroid Prime was a great game along with Super Metroid.
But before People thought it was a desaster because it was going to be 3D, but now they think different.

I actually became a fan with Fusion. Both it and Zero for me were great games and I hope they make another 2D style for the DS. I'm still trying to beat Super Metroid though, (don't hurt me, I just got it like 8 months ago. XD) From the little exposure I've had to Prime it was really good, I hope to get it once I get a Wii.

What I like about all the 2D is that they're well, really good 2D. The exploration, the shooting stuff really well. The map's a lifesaver too. They are just made really well.

Gots to like the Metroids

Metroid Fusion was such a surprising 2D sequel, I never expected Nintendo to make one of those again, and even though the lack of Gunpei Yokoi (R.I.P.) in the direction of the game is noticeable, the game is one of the best things ever programmed for the Gameboy Advance.

The things I really liked from this game were:

-The feeling of the Metroid games was kept in this.
-The game improved greatly, narrative wise. Now you can understand what the heck is going on, and all the explanations from Samus really help you get more into the game, understanding a lot of things about that base, Samus' new suit and her past as a bounty hunter.
-Creative new weapons. The ice missiles were such a curious way to solve Samus' new issue with Ice attacks (play the game and you'll understand why I'm saying it). Plus other new stuff.
-Your new enemy, represented by the SA-X, a replica of Super Metroid's Samus (not sure if it's the same sprite, though).
-Excellent boss battles, as usual... including some old school fights with some classic enemies (not gonna comment more details).
-They managed to keep all the moves from Super Metroid with a more restricted Game Boy Advance button configuration.

Things that really made me say "what the...":

-A too big difficult level. I didn't have problems beating this game, but I'm pretty sure that people that started playing Metroid with this game had such big problems trying to beat this. Specially when you encounter SA-X or some fights with the bosses.
-The game became more linear. It has secret zones and all, but they're kinda obvious to find, and the structure of the levels don't allow you to make a lot of exploration.

Fusion was definitely more linear than previous games, but I think that was more because of your ship's computer barking out objectives than anything else.

Speaking of which, do people here prefer their Metroid games without any sense of direction? I think Prime was the first game in the series that guided the player along with loose objectives. Personally, I'd like to be able to switch off the option and get completely lost in the world, but I can imagine that some people like having the guidance so they don't get completely lost either. XD

I never was a FPS fan until Metroid Prime. It's nice to have a kick ass female bounty hunter. I have prime, echoes, and I'm going to get corruption. I haven't played any old school Metroid though.

Metroid Prime isn't exactly a First Person Shooter, specially because it's not focused on destroying enemies, taking care of your ammunition and all that stuff, but more focused on rough exploration and slow-paced action. It doesn't follow the standards of more modern First Person Shooters' gameplay.

Game has a first person perspective, but it hasn't lost its exploring and adventure feeling. That's why it's more like a First Person Adventure game (like Morrowind, Oblivion and similar, with their respective distances and differences).
