After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

When starting my computer I get a..."Boot disk failure, insert system disk and press enter."

Okay... So the hard drive is being detected by bios. The wierd thing is that if you insert a windows xp disk in the cd drive, and let it time out on the boot from cd, it will default to the hard drive and boot with no problem at all.

This is more of an inconvenience at the moment than anything else, but if anyone knows a way to fix this I would be grateful.

Thanks!

1) IMMEDIATELY back-up all your important data!!!!!!!
because its quite possible that your hard drive is failing

2)download [link=http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools] seatools[/link] and check your hard drive

3)if your hard drive is OK you only need to repair your MBR, this can be done by fdisk, just boot from that windows CD and run
FDISK.EXE /MBR

Okay so I checked the drive and it seems alright.
Can you explain a bit more about how I would go about repairing my MBR as you lost me there.
Thanks

boot from windows xp CD, choose that you want to repair installed windows, and run Recovery Console. now you can run FIXMBR or FDISK.EXE /MBR

you should also change your BIOS settings so that your hard drive is first in order to boot.

Okay so I did the FIXMBR in the Recovery Console, then changed my boot sequence back to my hard drive first and it was still asking for the cd to boot.

Try to post something more about your hardware, and partition layout. It would be also nice if you could tell what happened "before".

SPOILER (click to view)

My hard drive is a Western Digital 160gb, I don't really know much more about it.
This was a fresh install of XP.

Would Fixboot be a good idea?

Was there any other OS before?

OK try it and you may possibly want to play with fdisk too. Just make sure that you have backups.

If it can boot from hard drive no problem just go in the BIOS and change the boot order. Instead from booting from the CD first you could just boot from the hdd. This should fix the problem... I had the same problem when trying to install WinXP on my new rig. Hope this helps...

If your problem still exists. As in, if you're still getting that error at bootup. Then try opening up your case and check your HDD cable. It may be so that the cable might be loose. Or out of contact. Tighten it up properly. And i mean your primary HDD cable, btw.

Your problem should be solved then! ^^

I've come across this error multiple times and it's always been the cable problem. Maybe it's the same thing here too...

160 GB HDD? It sounds like a IDE cable drive. Like Firestorm said, chances are very likely that your IDE cable needs to be checked and tightened. Just pull it out and plug it back in (IDE Cable Contact) on both the Mobo and HDD. This happens frequently in IDE cable systems, unfortunately.

I've experienced it with SATA cables more actually. They are small, lightweight and tend to disconnect very easily, lol.

So, what was the cause of the problem then?

Gremlins I believe.

Possibly a loose cable..but gremlins seem a bit more likely.
