This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I think that people who say that its sad or childish have very limited brain capacity and have no imagination (no offense to your mum Chrissy ;) )
Anime and manga open up the reader's creative and imaginative side of their brain, and allows them to loose themselves in a world very different from their own. They don't have to worry about life while reading manga or watching anime, and they actually, just for a second, dare to believe something like that could happen to them.

People who make fun of anime should be hit round the head with a large steel pole I think ^^'

Hey,
nobody has said that to me, maybe because I´m just 13 years old? But if somebody will say it to me in the future I will say: hey do you know something? Maybe I´m watching animes and that´s childish but I don´t really care about what you say! But I don´t really think somebody will say it to me because my whole family is childish and I´m the normal one xD But my friends do think it´s childish but I really don´t care!
@saati: you´re right xD

I remember one time when i saw animes as just plain old cartoons, and i never got to watching them again. That is until one of my friends told me about a manga (it was Negima, just so ya'll know :D). And then he told me there was anime about it and he wanted to d/l it from my computer cuz he had dial-up and i had cable. So i said ok. I didn't think he was being childish for wanting to see an anime, but other than that, I, at first, didn't care. That is, until, i watched the anime. Ever since then, I've watched and d/led a couple of animes, and i still got a pretty long list of what animes i wanna watch.

In other words, some people might think it childish, but everyone has their opinion in the end. As for me, no one has ever told me i'm childish just cuz i watch anime, since most of my friends do enjoy watching a few shows every once in a while.

As most of ya'll mentioned before, some people just think it's childing because they see it as a cartoon. They fail to see that animes are sometimes composed of real-life conflicts. Not only that, but they also contain a tremendous amount of human emotions. That is what separates anime from your ordinary cartoons, and that is one of the main reasons as to why i like...no...love, anime, because there have been animes that've made me cry, or laugh really hard, or even made my angry. I love how every single human emotion is portrayed through a fictional character, and i'm sure most of you do, too (at least i hope :p). In my opinion, overall, i could care LESS if someone called me childish for watching anime, because i know very well what i'm doing. If it was childish...i wouldn't be doing it ;)

Well, depends on the anime you're watching, but mostly I would say not childish.

Anime is not childish. My parents and classmates asked me the same question too. To them, Anime=Cartoon=Childish.

I believe it depends on what kind of anime you're watching. If you're watching a mature anime containing gore and curse words, then I don't consider that childish.

Yeah, my mother tells me many times to not watch these childish things.
But I think they're not childish because of the stories. If you know Ghost in the shell, Haibane Renmei, The grave of the fireflies then you get what I mean.
And when you want to get cheered up, you can always whatch He's my master or Prétear, etc.
And there are the thrilling ones.
So the genre anime is quite various and colourful and can't be judged so easily as childish thing.

Well think about it, even though some Anime is violent and have serious issues, in the end of the day your still watching a unrealistc cartoon.

Yeah, cartoons of the old days are childish. But not contemporary, if that's the word, anime! Some of the most complex and deep stories resides in the anime category and as said before, many are more geared towards adults and most definitely unfit for children. People who don't know simply associate anime with cartoons because they're colorful and not real. That's all they know. Granted many series in anime are children oriented so this generalization comes with it but it is wrong. Show some mature series to those "mature" people who haven't seen and they'll reformulate their perception of anime real quick.

People that say anime is childish, obviously haven't been exposed to that much of it. They have probably just seen anime like pokemon and yugioh that are played during saturday morning cartoons.

I had this problem with my flatmate once. So I made him sit down and watch Evangelion. He doesn't think anime is just for kids anymore!

Actually, my mother herself have seen some Animes with me, like Saint Seiya and Dragonball.
I don't have a big problem with it. I think my parents have a different idea of Anime than others.

Depending on wat anime~~~ don't be influenced by other ppl, be yourself. If you like it, it doesn't matter what other people says. And i think it's a good thing too. Of course sometimes if I'm the only one watching anime in my circle of friends, they might find you odd or think that you are childish. But that's just general thinking. There are still people outside with the general perception 'anime=programme watched by kids'. If so, so what? But it is not anymore. Those are ancient thinking~~~ Remind yourself that you are now in the 21st Century-world of technology~~~ not Ice Age!! So enjoy your anime while you are still young and have the time to watch. Plus, I think being in Form 1 is the best time to watch anime when you have plenty of time in hand as compared when you are in university whereby you have 'hurdles' every month or worse, everyday. From my own experience, I learnt a lot about life from anime. I seldom watch dramas or movies unless if they interest me. I might be odd but odd in a way I like XDXDXDXD and I'm still living with ANIME! :P
