This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I, myself use plasma TV, because it has a bigger size than flat TVs. My TV's size is 42", and it is enough for playing game and watching animes. :) So what's yours and why do you choose it?

A couple years ago, I bought a 61" RCA Scenium rear-projection HDTV. I have it hooked to my computer through a breakout box and RGB cables as most of my anime is on my computer. I have a DiVX/DVD player hooked up also via RGB, but plan to add a HD-DVD player soon.

As an aside, there used to be (in the the US) an HDTV dish system called Voom. For $50.00 a month, I got 25 free HDTV channels plus the 60+ normal channels. Watching HD on my TV was a righteous experience. Sadly, Voom couldn't compete with Dish Network and DirectTV and went out of business. The owner was a surprisingly nice rich person: he put up $15 million of his own money to keep it running a month longer than the expected shut-off date.

Thankfully you added the "why do you choose" question! Or else this thread would be closed!!

Anyways......

I have a Sony XHDTV, a plasma T.V. the same size as yours! 42". I love my T.V.!
Plasma T.Vs definitely give very good picture clarity and are very stylish too. They add to the look of the whole room they are placed in. Although they are quite expensive, i think they are worth the price paid.
I don't have any consoles with me but i am able to connect my PC with the T.V thanks to the Nvidia Graphic Card, and it looks absolutely fantastic! I love playing games like that. The screen is so big, sometimes i have to turn my head to look at the corners of the screen!! I also simply love watching movies on it.

But i have always wondered why the 'Plasma T.V.' is called so. I have heard that it contains those plasma gases or something like that and when electricity is passed through those gases, it generates the colors required. Is this true?

How does the plasma T.V. work and why is it called so?

The Firestorm.
(Sorry for changing the topic a bit but i really want to know)

Just a normal tv, colour that is. Don't know the brand (not at home now), flat/plasma screens are way to expensive for me..
Besides it is nice and small, although it takes in some space, but atleast it works good.

Yes, it is, it is mainly composed from Noble Gases(the rightest line in Periodic Table), and with some electrical waves it is transformed into plasma that excites phosphors to emmit the light from the transmission. :) And the name is taken from there too :)

But which noble gases? I don't think all of them could be contained. And how do they keep the gases from leaking out or some hazard like that? And which colors are produced when the electricity is passed? The normal or default colors 'Red, Green, Blue' or any other colors too? And howcome the plasma T.V gives such good clarity and that too on really high resolutions?

Me, personally I use my computer with a projector on a white wall. I could'nt figure out what to do with it, so I said wait a minute...

My GFX Card supports high def and is TV/AV Compatible, then I went and bought a 900$ projector, now I watch everything in high def.
So me personally, I'd rather spend 900$ once then have to spend 1500$ twice in 5 years.

Normally I'll use my parent's 52' Plasma with the Sony HD DVD player to watch titles I've bought or whatever is shown on Comcast On Demand. We happened to get the Plasma kind of "cheap" (Around $1.600). Bought it several months ago after years of my Dad pleading with my mom to buy one. She finally consented after prices were dropping and we had saved up enough with some sacrifices.

If not then we have an old but still reliable regular 36' downstairs. Picture is kinda grainy, but it's alright. I just hook up my PS2 to it and use that as a DVD player since most of the other one's we've bought, that we thought were great deals because they were really cheap but made by brands I've never heard of, broke.

If that's being used I'll use the laptop or desktop. Quality is alright.

It's interesting to hear what everyone uses. personally I run the video off my compy, but stream it to either a 13in television set who's case is practically melted off, or if I'm on campus, I'll go into an unused auditorium and stream it to their projection system, the best one I've ever used was in a place called muenzinger(for those of you who might know or go to CU boulder you know it) huge freaking projection system great place to watch anything on. Anyone know of any decent usb AV in cables? my last one was craptacular and has broken...

I'm still working with my good 'ol 27" that I picked up years ago prior to the HD-craze (can't recall which company it is though...Panasonic?). I just needed a functioning television at the time and got a great deal on it.

That said, after the new year, I plan to begin shopping for it's replacement and I've got my eye set on getting a 42-52" DLP as it's definitely about time that I upgraded.

Oh yeah, I've forgot to mention the gases, it's Xenon and Neon(Xe and Ne) that have mixed together. It's covered by two glasses, to maintain the gases keep in the place. About the color they produced, they produce three kind of color(primary color as you mentioned) according to the current of the electrical waves. In the plasma TV, every pixel is formed from three subpixel cells that each cell emmit different main color, one is red, one is green and the other is blue. That's the explaination, I'm sorry if there is any mistakes. :)
