Anyhow, these are the Mathusaleh nobles; Ion Fortuna the Earl of Memphis and Radu, the Duke of Luxor, his feiend from childhood.

In the dub of the anime "tovarish" Abel Nightroad assumes the word means "friend" in the Methusaleh language. However the subtitles translate "tovarish" as meaning "partner". Seeing that the Methusaleh who call another "tovarish" have a much deeper relationship than just friendship, I think the subs do a better job in coveying its meaning.
