This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Ah well...it's all in good fun. :)

Anyway, Lain has always been a personal favorite series of mine when doing walls of this type (i.e. B&W). Background panels are made of different round edged boxes with textures layered over and manipulated to taste. Noise is added in to give Lain that distinctive Lain feel. And the thing at the bottom left is just a portion of pipe stock (also manipulated to blend in with the style). Left the background minimalistic to avoid killing the overall atmosphere.

Pretty much geared towards icon friendliness.

PS: Flyin, one day I'm gonna kill you by brushing your teeth to death after a meal. XD

Recently i discovered/realised i'm lacking lain wallpapers...and i thought, well, i hope someone will make one soon! (cuz i don't feel like making one now...)
and someone has made it! woohoo!

i personnally use a lot of icons on my desktop, so your wall is warmly welcomed :) too bad we lost, i don't understand with such good walls we submitted but.. oh too bad. still i like your wall a lot, it fits well on my desktop ;)

Anyhow, the use of texturing and filtering worked out pretty well!

ot much to edit (not much to see either with all that black =P, j/k) i guess, nah well, the background could have been a bit lighter so you see more in it, but I'm antfucking again so don't mind me

Like the darkness of the wallpaper ^^ The background is really cool and suits Lain really well, the whole darkness of the wall suits Lain nicely ^o^ Usually wouldn't like noise on scans XP But I pretty much love it on this one! Your wall really tells the story of Lain ^.^ And it's icon friendly :o Great job ;D

anyways, i loved the overall feel of simplicity without there actually being any simplicity at all. you and gat nailed the feel of lain completely which is really the factor that makes this wall stand out so well. and i know some people complained about the text, but i really like it. i think it really enhances that lonliness.

Man, this challenge really brought the best of everybody's creative juice in black and white!
Absolutely love the dark/angsty/eerie feel of the wall.
I like the subtle background elements - and they were all made from scratch? wow ..
A tad too much glow on the text for my cuppa - but it's not that much of a big deal.

I just noticed that a lot of Lain wallpapers are usually in black and white. It's very original. The features are very dark, but it should be lightened up a little bit. Nice black skin tones. Keep the work and effort up!
