First, I'm just going to say this in case you're thinking it: No, this wall is NOT me shipping Riza and Jean as a couple... I mean, you can take it that way if for some reason you want to, but otherwise please don't be mad at me, k? ^_^'
The title is in reference to a term, 'Soldier's Heart', that I'd heard used in a TV show back then (again, May 2008). The show was New Amsterdam (which along with Canterbury's Law ran on Fox but was canceled after the first season). "Soldier's Heart" is kind of an old world term for how fighting in a war changes a person. It's used when a soldier returns from war and can't find their way back to fitting into society again. In their mind, they are still stuck on the battle field. It's like, a shift in paradigm, and it's one that is for the most part forced onto a person... and that's a problem, not just for soldiers, but for a lot of people. If something forces you to change the way you look at the world, what can you do? Not everyone knows how to change again or can bring themselves to chose to change their outlook on life by choice or by willpower. Some people can, just like some solders who return from war can go back to a regular life as if little has changed. But others can not. For them, the fight won't end until they die. Life seems to like to change the rules on a person, doesn't it? I guess, the trick to it is to learn to use what you've got... if the fight is never over until you die, then maybe the answer isn't to stop fighting, but to chose a better fight?
For the process of the wallpaper, this is a re-done and updated wallpaper that I made for ~meiliangel as a birthday present back in May (2008). I've kind of worked on it from time to time since then, the wallpaper you're seeing now is actually the 4th version of it. Here's the first one that I posted back then:

It got mostly bad reviews (it basically bombed), and the few that seemed to like it, some of them like this commenter
Anyway, here's version 2 (early December 2008):

I was thinking something simpler with black, but it didn't seem to click and so I moved on...
This is version 3 (late December 2008):

More black contrast with the circle, and the intense white glowy stuff, again not really looking right, is it? Plus, the extraction and the whole color scheme, yikes! It really wasn't working like I wanted u_u
So on to version 4 (June 2009). Way better extraction, softened the color scheme and made it look more organic and soft, more interesting I hope, plus added some textures to give it more of a vintage aspect to counterbalance the glowy stuff that just was too overpowering on it's own. A few other little enhancements and edits here and there and I've got this, hopefully, pretty darn nice wallpaper to share with you now n_n

Weren't especially happy with me for shipping two characters who apparently were not so good to be shipped together. Like I said, I hadn't actually meant to ship them, but I guess it was implied. I'd actually never seen FMA before back then, and even now I've only seen the 1st disk of it and Riza and Jean aren't even on that, so I obviously don't really know much. I'd just made this cuz Mei requested an FMA wallpaper and I happened to choose this scan to make the wallpaper from ^_^'NekoiEchizenAwesome Jean and Riza wallpaper!*-* Not a fan of this pair but I love the background so much!*-*
