Intro: Well well well... what do I have to say for this one... Well. First off, it's my entry for the DERKA contest (http://po-taters.tamashii.org). Secondly, I do not watch/read Black Cat or know anything about it at all... so for those Black Cat fans out there, I hope this wall isn't offensive. >_>"
Making the wall took a while... thanks to the piles of homework and exams and midterms and whatnot. Took some time off each day and vectored the original manga(?) scan, which took like a month. I tried another approach at vectoring this time around, and I guess I learned some new things again! The results aren't that bad. Anyways, the vectoring took the longest, and the rest was basically brainstorming ideas in Photoshop, as well as random MSN convos with HK.
The wall. I guess the wall doesn't mean much as it is, but I was trying to portray a message... or atleast, make something that relates to the stuff I'm thinking about. I stuck with plain colours as it was more effective. Basically, it's about the 'masks' people put on due to society's pressure and the wanting to fit in; which, in my opinion, makes people lose their 'true selves'... as they are being something that they're not. I represented this in the girl, with the 'tear' representing the death of the inner, TRUE self. The black strips are wooden planks, 'barring' up the reflection, which is in the mirror and represents the true personality and feelings of the girl. The reflection is cracked; shattered, and again, represents and relates to the title, "Forgotten Self - False Identity." ... I can't really put what I want to say into words, but I hope that last paragraph made a little sense, at least.
[EDIT]
Also, the fact that the expression of the girl totally clashes with the tears and overall feel of the wall represents... the fact that the world is so FAKE.
