It's been a while, but I'm still here and walling. There was Anime Expo, and then work took hold, and then I went and spent nearly 2 weeks traipsing around Vancouver. Anyways, I finished this wallpaper in time to be a slightly early birthday present to myself, because I give myself the best gifts evar. As you can see, I still love Okami artwork. The image of a napping Amaterasu was too sweet to pass up. She looks so relaxed and cozy. That's what I'd like to be doing all day! The background was composited from a different Okami scan. Originally traced in Illustrator in order to put all the elements together in a single image - I removed a lot of stuff from the original waterfall image, preserving just the cherry tree, island, waterfall and surrounding mountains. Then I smudged and painted the image in Painter. Add some textures I always use on Okami walls to give it that aged ukiyo-e feel, and at last! A wall! After 4 months! It's time for me to take a nap just like Amaterasu!
My J-E dictionary lists an idiom in Japanese that means the same as "let sleeping dogs lie" but literally translated it deals with snakes... so I figured the Japanese title of the wall could be a bit simpler.
