After searching through a myriad of scans I have collected from AP, I found this pose of Roy (as he was lurking in the bg as a secondary character shot).
I really liked his pose and expression, so I extracted him and gave him his own wall.
I wanted to play around with colors found on his uniform (along with blues, since I feel blues fit his personality very well).
The sun rays may be cliche but they symbolize power and the oriental feel. I feel the sun rays are fitting for Roy's "imperialistic goals" and the whole "dawning of a new era" motif. Also, I added some birds to the sky to further convey the lofty ambitions and endless possibilities Roy sees for his "revolution."
I also wanted the wall to have a bit of a grungy feel, and so the fractals and bullet brushes helped me convey the overall "texture" of the wall.
