It’s been a long time since I scanned this cover of GTO’s last volume. But I haven’t had a time to play around with it, or I’ve been just lazy. I dunno …
Here’s the Mr. Onizuka's image after some cleaning up (backgrounds, titles and such) :

Initially, I was building the image of him in the winter night, cause the original image seemed to say about something 'winter calm,' if you know what I mean. I put blue snowy night illustration in the backdrop and put a white snowy frame. Unfortunately, I couldn't handle the ray of moonlight well enough (here’s the version: http://static.flickr.com/93/256158233_887d8a6883_o.jpg ), which led me to build another 'simple but kind of lonely look' version.
For the character, after some cleaning up job, I put some Photoshop filters, and make it little bit tone down. I put this high contrast image of woods on the backdrop, and by doing so, I wanted to have 'some kind of sense of direction or hope' to be there, since he's got this lonesome smile. Then I added several texture and this sketch-ish illustration for the title. After every incorporation (?), I simplified & cleaned some unnecessary elements and toned down colours little bit more.
Hope you guys like it.
Cheers.
