This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
The original scan, was a black and white manga scan, similar to this one found in the gallery: http://www.animepaper.net/scans/Bleach/entry20155/
So, since it was black and white, i took it, and i fully revectored it in illustrator. i had to create from my head all the shadows and many of the folds in his cloth (especially inn the black area). also, for compositional purposes, i had to finish the cloth that is cut off in the original.
so after a lot of time reCGing ths whole scan, there was much stock manipulation, and much mroe lighting effects added, and trees made from scratch and texturing and all that good stuff, until finally, i came up with what you see here.

Utterly fantastic, you really outdid yourself for this contest. The recg on the character looks great, and the firey landscape really complements him perfect. Definetly going to have to add this to my favorites.
Ahh it's really, im kinda speechless you know, just watching the anime makes me like it so much more. I don't know why you would pick such a dramatic scene but it's just perfectly done. The re-CGing job is really great, I can't tell difference from the anime itself. The background is so kickass I have nothing to complain really. Another great job with the feeling of apcolypse.

Beautiful wallpaper, bg and charachter work well together and this is one of the few succsesful white backgrounds I've seen.
Hmmm, the wall quality aint that good..the edges of the main pic a littel not ok...

You're a mad genius, Kalico. How can anyone color a scan like that to make it look like this...the colors are most superb and you did an excellent job with the background. His personality really shows through with the chaos of the red, firy explosions. Awesome job...as usual ^_~
