This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Okay, so first, i'll copy and paste the important stuff...
okay, so here's my entry for circuit II of the derka competition (http://po-taters.tamashii.org/index.html)
we were assigned a scan, and a REALLY tough scan at that. not only was it an amano scan, which...are incredibly plain, yet detailed and intricate at the same time, but it was one that was even more so than usual.
i love dthe scan, but working with it was tough, especially concidering the guidlines given.
you can check the derka website for that. and i suggest you do before giving a single comment, because if you don't know the guidlines, you won't understand why i did what i did.
anyways
i saw the scan, and after a few days of thinking "oh crap", i came up with this idea. day vs. night.
the scan showed the male character with the stars on his cape, so thats where that came from. i originally didn't want to chop up the scan like i did since i'm kinda against it, but in order for it to work, i had no choice. so i chopped it up and moved it around. and parts that were added were taken from other amano scans to keep the style. anything else was only alterations such as lighting effects, and levela djustments and the likes.
now, i edited it quite a bit. same general idea, but i took some suggestions from tate, shinn, highknees, and others and worked on it a bit. so thanks guys for your help.
i decided to just reupload it because i'm a horrible person.
if you commented before, please do so again and i'll love you forever :D
oh yeah, and the text behind the main text is from a poem by Sidney Lanier titled "night and day" the stanza i used is the following:
"The innocent, sweet Day is dead.
Dark Night hath slain her in her bed.
O, Moors are as fierce to kill as to wed!
-- Put out the light, said he. "
Here we go again :P Um I don??t remember what I said last >.> Oh well xD The wall still rocks I like the whole ying-yang concept you got going on it was great idea. You definitely did a great job on this wall considering how hard the scan is to work with so bonus points for that xD The only thing that bugs me is the little text behind the main text it??s distracting >.> Overall though this came out really well :D Keep it up! +fav
It's so cool! And pretty of course!
Lovely job on re-arranging the girl and guy. It looks better the way you did it!!
I love the lighting and the idea of the wall! It looks really good!
I'm going to add this to my fav!
I dig. The new text is also less intrusive as well and the rays of light are just fine. The other things were fine before you edited them so I'll just re-fav it.
You did an awesome job with that scan, the wall reflects perfectly Amano's style. i think the text behind the title bother me though, and I would have brightened the night sky of just one tone to differenciate the black dude from the sky. besides that, the work youve put in this wall roxorz my boxorz
Your walling skills really continue to surprise me each and every single time... I mean judging by the scan itself this was a difficult wall to make yet you continue to come out on the top... Excellent job and probably one of my top five favorite wall's on the site... Awsome job Kalico...
Well stab me kalico they dont like the text behind >.>
i guess what would do is...make the text more readable, and move it or something, then retain the gold flecks on the main text by overlaying stuff on it, and removing the stuff that exceeds it (by the way when i told you to make it look like an ember i meant that) lol

...sexy work baby, a perfect compliment to amano's brilliant artwork.

one crit: the text [poem] would be better off removed as it is unreadable..
btw- if you can send me a copy of your wall without the text layer i will send you a virtual scanned artbook. ;)
