This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
My boss's wife is from China and I heard in some cases they could barely understand each other, if at all, between villages... orally anyway, not sure about written.
The bishounen invasion pushes ever onwards with a wallpaper of Sakis from Lagoon Engine Einsatz. The original scan drew me in with his sense of wonder at the bird flying over him, and I really liked how the bird was integrated into the clouds of the sky. Thus, we have Tama's take on sceneric.
I wanted to get a feel of a painting for this wallpaper, thus the entire character was redrawn and repainted using Corel Painter 9. I tried to recreate the original image, so I copied the style of the grass (also painted in Painter) as well as the bird in the sky (yes, Painter yet again!) In fact, the only thing I did in Photoshop (minus my typical color corrections and text at the end) was to make the clouds. I originally was going to paint those, too, but I couldn't get them to look proper after about 2 hours of experimentation, and I knew that judicious use of stock photographs would work out better (plus some smudging and filtering to give it a painted feel instead of a photorealistic feel.)
The text on the original scan read, "sono tori wa... watashi no kokoro wo tondeita" which I've literally translated as "The bird soared through my heart". The title "Flight of Fancy" came about because, well, it's an old phrase, and it seems to fit the wonder of a white bird gliding serenely overhead.
A typical Tama wallpaper--in other words, pure perfection :D
The clouds come across beautifully, and the bird overhead was ingenious. I also love how clean the whole wall feels...so peaceful.
Oo me likes! >_< really nice and simple. i love the clouds and the bird looks nice too. the only thing that kinda bothers me is the grass for some reason...but other than that i think its awesome
Nice painting there tama. The field looks like it is vectorized. The clouds looks great too but is the big whitet thingy a bird? Anyway, good job on it.
I think it would look better if the outlines on the character were colored. Since the grass has green outlines and the sky has...well, no outlines, the character having black outlines makes him look a little too crisp. But if you wanted him to stand out (and I mean REALLY stand out), then he SHOULD have black outlines and I SHOULD shut up. XD
You did a wonderful job. I will now add this to my favorites and get something to eat, before I eat you, your wallpapers, and my laptop. XD
Wowies! This is a really awesome wallpaper! The concept is really well done! The thing that sort of bothers me is the bird. I know it's apart of the scan but I wouldn't have know what it was unless you told me ^^; I also like how he looks at it and wonders. I love the clouds and the scan is really crisp and clear! Great painting! Awesome work!
