As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!
Following on my latest obsession for Kazuya Minekura's work and having done Saiyuki for my first wall, it's time for Kubota and Tokito from Wild Adapter to get the well-deserved attention for my second wall.
The idea for the title 'Stray Cat' comes from the manga with Kubota picking up Tokito the 'stray cat' as pictured in this wall in their first introduction to each other. Also relates to Tokito's deformed right hand looking like a claw - read manga for more story :)
Here I wanted to create a 'noir movie'-like shot where it's kinda smelling dark and angsty - hence the cinematic widescreen borders and a touch of sepia for extra dramatic effect.
It's done in a comic/manga style because I love the original scan (courtesy of Bane Huntress) which is basically just a pic of the guys in pencil sketch - hence, crazy filtering abuse on the original alleyway stock photo to match the sketchy look.
The background was definitely the biggest challenge here. With minimal brushing involved, the background stockphoto is almost purely transformed using a mesh of complicated composites of various photoshop's basic filters, plus minor tweaks using Dodge, Burn and default brushes.
Massive thanks for people in Session Zero for your comments and suggestions, esp for the sepia idea, really appreciate everyone's help.
Well here it is, finally! You know I dig your monochrome walls. =D Great work on the sketchy effect and lighting composition to give us a wall with such *character*. Kudos, and *faves*.
Nice job on making everything fit together right down to the text! A very movie poster-ish look going on here, this one is going straight to my faves ^^.
It looks real genuine.. the colours and the texture are very artistic.. but the only bit that i think is not that appropriate is the text.. but overall a very good work.. keep it up!..
Oh wow, this Wall looks like it can fall in the classic category. You did some work on that alley way and its most defined. The dark contrast of it gives it a dark, yet myserious look which i like. I'd love to see more of your Walls. Keep it up! =)
Very nicely done, I really like the look of the allyway and the monocromatic approach you took. Great job on the text and texturing too. I'll have to add this one to my favorites.
This is a very good wallpaper i have seen lots of good ones and this is one of the most powerful ones i have seen... the atmosphere is great and the font really matches the concept and it is not ruining the wallpaper. The brown tones make this wall look old, lonely and a little bit depressing but seeing him still standing on his feet makes the whole feeling full of hope.
Yes a grat wall indeen and you got a fav from me coz it is really worth it.

If religion is that which binds men to one another, and irreligion that which sunders, then must I testify that I found the religion of my country in its musical genius and its irreligion in its churches and drawing rooms.
