After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!
I've never done a Kino No Tabi wallpaper before, and I was a little surprised at the apprehension that I had stepping into the series many of our finest wallers choose scans from.
I decided a simple and light wallpaper would best suit this scan. I thought a good theme to try and get the wallpaper to reflect would be that of memories. I find that memories lie all around us, and not as just recorded information in our minds. If anyone has seen the original Parent Trap, one of the twins goes up to her grandfather, hugs him, and takes a good deep breath of his jacket. When he asks "what are you doing?", she fondly replies, "making a memory". Memories are so beautiful when you find them where you're not looking for them. A familiar face, a passing scent, a warm feeling...they can all stir up past memories. That is what i wanted to present here.
I thought the sakura petals and the cherries that were already present in the scan would be very useful in making visually spreading the wallpaper theme. The Character is smelling something like cherries and sakura flowers on whatever object that she is holding, and it stirs a memory. :)
I took and duplicated the existing cherry on her head, and the one sakura petal that was viable enough for use and tried to randomly, but aesthetically place them around the piece. Then I took some of my own handmade photoshop brushes and touched up the background. I put in eminating red waves to signify the intensity yet lightness of the surrounding feeling. I found the halftone pattern in photoshop rather intrigueing and had never used it in any of my works but in this one, I've placed a very subtle over-halftone. I placed a light sandstone texture over the finished piece and here it is.
Enjoy. Comments and Favs always appreciated but critique is most loved! ^^
This is cute but not my cup of tea if you know what i mean...
The scan is awesome (that girl that is) and the whole paper teture effect is cool but what really bugs me are those fruit hanging everywhere. I dont know if that is your style... The colors are tasty... Like candy... Thats a plus but sometimes not so... I think you used too much fruit flying around... That is just my oppinion other people will probably love it ^^
But overall great work ^^ Looking foreward to the next one
The texturing is nice, the scan of Kino is ultra-cute, and the soft color is the thing that attracts my eyes at first glance. It's that old-school wallpaper that gives you a melancholy feeling throughout looking. And the one that doesn't bombard your eyes with colors and stuff (erm.. though I have to aggree... it would be better to have less fruits on it)
Definitely one of the most adorable Kino no tabi wallpaper I've ever seen. Great job, Sunira!
Hm...the wall looks pretty good if you have the overall sight on it... although it's a bit too soft....but the things you put in, works pretty well. nice job =)

I really enjoy this one...I usually hate cherries, but you used them in a very stylistic manner that I think is very befitting the wallpaper. Keep it up! :) I do wish the text was bigger though....

Aww this is so cute and nice and soft ...love the colors~!
the bg sorta reminds me of wallpaper that you put on a wall^^'
interesting idea with the red waves ^^
Cute cute :D. I like the light colors that you used. Good idea using the cherry on her head and placing them all over the wall xD It's different from the standard sakura leaves that most people use :P
O0ohh..i love the texture of this wallpaper. And the muted colors add a nice de-saturated look. I think more lively colors would better off suite this image because of the cute little cherries. its still a good wall though
I really think this is cute :] I love the texture you have. It's as if it's a water color :] Really great scan you chose and the technique you chose to use XD
Very nice scan and very good choice of colors. :3 Maybe you could rotate some of the falling fruits on the left side? I dunno, they look a tad redundant. And I'm not too fond of the kanji texture either. ^^;; It looks odd against the falling fruits, flower petals, and the other purdy stuff you added.
I was trying to think of somethign to critique, but there isn't really that much wrong with the wall :).
I think the only thing that really stands out in any sense is that the cherrys and sakura blossom are clearly repeated. I don't mean from your descriprion, what I mean is it's kinda obvious it's the same couple of shapes used over and over. I think I would have tried to give each one a little delicate twist in order to avoid that.
It really wouldn't have had to have been much - slightly different line here, little thicker line there, but it would help to seperate them a bit more. Hope that makes sense - it's not really needed as it works as is, but it was the only thing I could really think of :).
Although, the edges of the cherry are a little rough - maybe draw the edges in a bit rounder with the pencil tool? I dunno.
