As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!
Well to start off this is my entry for Derka (http://po-taters.tamashii.org/entries.htm)
Now on to the good stuff like how much I dislike Amato and his art -_- Yes I never ever liked it since the very first time I saw his stuff :P He is good and all but its so not me >< Um that said this was no easy task talk about lack of inspiration T_T As usual though I knew I wanted to make it different then what I expected everyone else to do. After playing around with this scan for a long long time trying to find something that would work (tried 5 ideas before this one T_T) I finally decided I would try to go for a pirate like theme xD So there you have it! Anyway, enjoy everyone! ^^
WOW!! HERE HERE FOR PIRATE THEME! I'm absolutely amazed with all the DETAIL O.O...SUGOI! The parchment looks pretty darn realistic. I have but one question. Did you create all that from scratch or did you use stocks? Either way you made this wallpaper AWESOME. Great work ;).
Have a nice day.

First...YOU SPELLED PIXELATED WRONG YOU WHORE!
second, i'm not a fan of all of amano's work either. actually, it's his more popular stuff that i don't really like. his more realistic stuff, and his more pop stuff is what i prefer, although i do really like the scan.
now, fr an actual critique. i give you a lot of credit for coming up with a unique idea that avoided extraction (since you were bitchin about it from day 1 xD )
don't blame you though. it's far from easy.
the pirate theme is cool, and always fun! (like my storyboarding project...)
and you did a nice job at keeping it interesting.
overall it's a nice job, but you've done much better. now go do something fun!
I'm impressed at how you managed to stick within the rules and still come up with something novel. I think desktop photomanipulation is your thing, yes sir! When I look at it, I can't help thinking dirty spyglass for some reason. And hourglass. This reminds me of those shots of *ahem* you were showing me... hahahahahaha! I think I better stop before my comments get derivative.
Wow! I love the pirate theme! I'm not that much of a fan of Amano's works either but you did a great job on this wallpaper! It is eye-catching and totally my style! Keep up the great work!
Hey I really like this, I'm definetely feelin' the pirate thing. A dagger is all it needs. A sweet pirate dagger stuck into the table. LOL you should have given one of the characters an eye patch. XD XD ok one minor problem I see - it looks like the pillar on the scroll extends out into the rolled portion. That's definetely unrealistic. x) I give this an Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh rating! (R-rating, get it.) >.>;;
Its cool, well done (sort of) and although i can appriciate the idea behind it, I can't quite see how the scan fits in a pirate theme (which Im also having trouble distinguishing). Also, the blending of the scan needs some work, it doesn't feel like its drawn on the parchment at all, not to mention that part of it goes over the rolled part..whats up with that? Also the idea of letters, images and random items on a table with a slight sepia tone over it, is over used...noting that I've used it too, haha. Overall its a good wall, but its just not convincing enough.
WOW, definitely different from any wallpaper I've seen! It's creative of you to come up of an idea like that. That's cool. I am admiring the pirate theme. It matches well with the picture. The whole theme is excellent. The coins at the edge is awesome. :D The parchments added to the wall made the wallpaper a delight to see. Seeing something different is definitely a plus, and this is wayy different (in a VERY good way.) Overall, your effects were explicit, and they sure do make it look like one of the greatest wallpapers made. Very talented!
This is beautiful. I don't really get the pirate part, though. I'd also think that the Amano art should be in sepia-tone or line-drawing...color like that is pretty hard to achieve in parchment ^_^
Really nice wp, very thought out. it's put together perfectly. the old paper effect is great and the characters give just the right amount of color contrast. did you make the stairs look 3-d like that or was it part of the scan? amazing work! :)
The scroll is so damn sexy, I have no complaints XD The rest however...good work, but there's still something lacking in them =X Since it's so close up, details and perspective are of great importance. You have the perspective correct for the papers, but I don't get how the coins are kind of thin...maybe it's just my monitor =.=a The papers are kind of lacking depth, well, that was hard enough to do, so I'll let you loose XD Excellent work on the scan *thumbs up* This one's still going to my faves ;D +fav

And here I am thinking that I have seen all the brilliant DERKA entries yet Blaze come up with this amazing wall... I mean it is amazing what you did with this wall... No offense to other DERKA competitors but this is my favorite out of all the entries so far... Way to go Blaze...
What I love most about this wall is the detail... I mean WhiteBlaze really put a lot of stuff into this wall... As for the pirate theme it worked perfectly... I mean there is so much detail that I could almost read the handwriting on the paper... Another thing that I love about this wall is the texture... Looking at the paper it really does look like and old scroll... The wood background was also a very nice touch with the proper texture...
10/10 for this wall... No doubt I would say that this is on my top three best wallpapers here on AP... Great Job White Blaze!!
