This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Nah, I don't want new ones I need these ones to break in more. But my left thumb is really hurting right where the knuckle is >.< I guess I have some bad habits on my left hand.
I lied. I said my next Gankutsuou wallpaper would feature Haydee, and I now have a scan all picked out for it but after buying the Gankutsuou Complete book and falling in love with the cover I had to wall that first, because the Haydee wall will be a long, involved trace and this would not.
This is based off of the back cover of Gankutsuou Complete and features the main antagonist the Count of Monte Cristo himself. I figured that since I was making one of the front cover I might as well make one of the back cover, too. Besides, the Count is sexy. The original background was a textured leather, and since I already had a set of textures that closely resembled it I was ready to go! The lineart in the background was scanned off the front cover of the guidebook, from the art underneath the slipcover. It features a prominently blazing sun, crossed swords, and the scales of justice. It made sense, considering how justice was not served to the Count in his youth, and hence he turned to alternate routes (read: revenge) to gain it. I was aiming at the style of the opening sequence "We Were Lovers" with its faded browns and stuff.
Since the other wall in this set was "Les Ingenu" or "The Naive" this one had to be the opposite - so I went with "Le Genie" or "The Mastermind" - he certainly is a mastermind, carefully crafting his revenge with an almost fanatical attention to detail.
This wall is designed as a set; see also "Les Ingenus" which features the other main characters, Albert, Franz and Eugenie. You could even dualscreen the wallpapers if you had such a setup; Le Genie on the right and Les Ingenus on the left.

I love all of your Gankutsuou walls, Tama-Neko! I downloaded most of them from your website before I really started using animepaper, so this comment is kind of for all of them. They have a great use of subtle colors and textures, and good choices of scans! They grace my desktop quite often. :inu:
Another great subtle wallpaper. It's nice to see folks are getting over some of the simple photoshop tricks that have been so comon in the anime wallpaper community.
I love this wallpaper.
I like monochrome [especially brown/sepia shades] in general but this is awesome.
I especially like the "Gankutsuou" eyes and I believe the title does the Count justice
I've always loved this cover--I've even got the book positioned on my shelf so that it's visible at all time. It's great to see that someone thought to make a wall out of it, and a good one at that!
