This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Oh, my god... X_X My entry for AP Vectorness' April Challenge - Rain. I rushed this like nothing else, I know it's fugly, if there's anything that you see that needs to be fixed please lemme know. GRAWR! *Enters ultimate stage of wall-hatred*
I love Clover, and I think Oruha is beautiful/sexy. I'm rambling to remind myself why I chose to torture myself by vectoring ANOTHER Clover manga page. I remember once crap and I were talking about who we thought were the hottest female manga characters. I think I ultimately ended up listing Oruha as one of them. Granted a lot of it probably comes from the fact that she's having sex with Kazuhiko every 5-10 pages? Regardless I think she's one of Clamp's most mysterious, alluring characters to date. And Clover is just a beautiful manga series, period.
...I get the feeling that I am so going to come back to this descrip later and make it more PG. Anyways, Oruha vectored off this manga page; I looked at this manga page for bg reference but it ended up being useless since the perspective was wrong, so I ended up drawing most of the background from scratch, including fugly rain drip outlines on windows, which I drew myself but looked at another manga page for rough referencing. Fun. *dies* Houses are photomaniped off a picture from Stock.XCHNG.
I feel a bit conflicted about the text, so you can find the textless version of the wall at pixel ellipsis. This wall feels so *meh* to me =_= I'd much rather use this wall or this wall... *pimps* I dunno, what do you guys think?
Thanks nageni-kun for bouncing ideas off me (even though I didn't end up taking the clouds idea XP They were too dreamy... I wanted something with more edge in the end >D)... and for being patient receiver of flyin' whines... and Gids, the best slave-driver and briber I've ever met. You owe me a present now.
And Tama I hope you haven't closed the competition yet...! T___T
Kyaaaaa so beautiful! Oruha looks really pretty in that scan, and I love the way you've made the wall, specially the colours... really nice ^__^ Very very good work (+fav)

Wow, awesome work! The scan is beautiful and your colouring( and vectoring) make it even prettier... *_* The wallpaper is very different compared to the others, it´s good thing. The background has very dark, dramatic colours and they go well with the scan. The shading is also amazing, it highlight the darkness of the background.
Well, I think the water against the window is a little weird, the "water lines" should be thiner. But it looks like the rain still ;)
Special. Very good work.
I usually don't like dark wallpapers, probably because the thumbnail won't catch my eye -- but yours did. Her dress is so striking on that background, it looks great :). I also think she's gorgeous and you did a very good job bringing that out. It looks like she's in a spotlight since she seems like she's glowing.
You're beginning to develop your very own style, that I can tell by looking at this wallpaper. However, there are a few things that I feel like pointing out. One is the gradient on the woman's hair, which looks too bright and saturated. The other is that, despite being a nice vector the fact that it has no 'cell-shaded' areas makes it stand out too much and lose the right atmosphere, in my opinion. Last insignificant thing, I know the girl is purposely 'bright' like that to contrast the rest of the setting which is dark/pitch black, but you could still hint a bit of 'darkness' on her dress or atleast on the microphone cable which is weirdly too bright. Oh and I'd remove the text as well, it's unfitting.
That's it. You did an awesome job for the rest (the rain on the windows is wonderfully done) and I despite having used a stock photo you blended it well enough to not make it look too 'realistic' for an anime wallpaper. :)
Omg.. the vector looks so perfect.. x__x
and i love the way how you made the outlines.. =3
the bg is a bit dark.. i think.. but nevertheless great work =D
Ooo, oruha in blackxred. haven't seen such colors: people make her white, blue, silver or gold. But it gives this wall a certain charm. Good job [the scan wasn't perfect].

whoa, the windows! there are building behind them! Sugoi *-*

Och och...can't believe I didn't get around to commenting on this yet
A beautiful vector of Oruha...well worth all your hair pulling :) ...and her hair looks great! hehe
Like how you did the mic and roses as well
Lovely job with the rain on the windows
Not sure about the text either...but I like the font...maybe if it was smaller and a little shadowed? rather than completely taking it away...
OMG. you have done a BEAUTIFUL job with this picture!
i love the rain on the windows behind her especially!
the coloring and mood fit together wonderfully, however i expected a forest green dress to fit the clovers around her neck. but the red makes it really stand out, so no complaints from me.
^^ definatly a favorite.
and if i dont make sense, dont worry. i almost never make sense.
Ok well I'll be my "not original" and just say that this is absolutely beautiful.
There's so much tiny details on her, it's just nice to look at. Shadows on her dress... XD
I'm amazed by the rain effect on the window.
And the stock photos work pretty well with the vector, I would thought it would clash a bit before seeing it.
So my only complain is, like others point out, the gradient in her hair that need to be more subtle.
Beside that I really like the wall :)
