As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!
We should just give police satellite access. Let the criminal go rest some place and storm the building. Rather than 3 tons of car barreling around the streets at 100 mph with an unskilled driver behind the wheel.
Hm, this wall was made for Arete, a Yoshitaka Amano walling competition. Overall, it was tough since I'm not used to Yoshitaka Amano's scan, plus, it's NEVER easy to wall Amano. I believe those who've walled Amano scan would agree with me. ^^
Anyways... the original title for this wall should be the same as the scan.. which is "The Dreamseer". But there were some minor problems that caused me to go off track from using that title, and that has to be Utada Hikaru's Exodus.
When I first looked at the scan, I couldn't scrap a single idea to match the scan. I mean, besides dark and black.. what else? Then I looked hard and FINALLY realised the scan has a title... which I kinda missed earlier on, idea kept flowing.
So I went to Stock Xchange and searched for about 7-8 stock photos of random sceneries, played random filters with each of them (Seriously, I had no idea what I was going to do with them, but I wasn't just going to slap them just right at the back) Shift here and there with my scan as initial guide.
And then there was the scan. Amano scan, is not worth the extract. And I never wanted to ruin the scan. So all I did was to blend the scan by lowering the opacity of the eraser and erased the edge of the scan so it blends with the background. And then some minor brushings, cleaning and text, that's pretty much about this wall.
As I've said, the original title for this wall should be "The Dreamseer", so all the stock photos in the background symbolises the dream that this woman, the Dreamseer could see, either from the future, present or past. Please ignore the text though, I was just a little over Utada. (She rocks!)
The filter effect or wahtever the blotch is on the upper left throws me off. Also, it'd might have blended the scan into the bg more if the bg had more colors that related to the scan. It's a bit edgy and out there, although I have to admit SOME of the stocks kinda do match in some weird way. The way you blended the scan into the bg without extracting... Also doesn't match too well. But I give props to all whom had participated in Arete... >_< Yoshitaka Amano art is very intimidating...o.0
This wallpaper is amazing. I love Geisha girls and this really protrays the beauty of what they are all about. I had to add a comment, even though it isn't the best in the world just because I am adding this to my favorites list. Wow. Really amazing work if I may say so myself. Keep it up and I'll check back in!
A very practical use of this image. This is about the best manipulation I've seen, it feels like it might be a completed work to be published and distributed at large. Very nicely done.
I like the symbolism that you used for this but the background and the character doesn't float too well. It's blended well though. Great wallpaper overall.

Phoenix Is BACK!
The wallpaper have the dream-view, in my eyes.
As you said, the only thing that go to my head when first see this scan is dark background...
Well, although the wallpaper a bit weird *in my eyes*, I really like the idea.
