I was browsing the misc scans gallery in MT to both keep it clean (moving inappropriate images out of the gallery) and to see if there were any good scans of shrines/temples for a wallpaper I'm working on. I found this scan of Neko no Ongaeshi and just loved it. Hiiragi's art is pretty simplistic, and I like the anime designs of the characters more (especially the fact that Baron is a ginger cat, not black) but the simplistic watercolor style of the picture, plus its feelings of easy friendship between these three, really drew me in. I redrew the wall and the rooftop that Baron is leaning against/standing upon, and then used several blended stock photos for the skies. I added texturing to maintain that watercolor on rough paper feel. Since in the end of the Neko no Ongaeshi manga, these three are resting on top of a building (watching over Haru?) and the anime ending theme was "Kaze ni Naru" or "Becoming the Wind" I decided to use that for the title. Very summery.
Look! It's a wallpaper that (provided you only have 1-2 columns of icons) is suitable for a PC OR a Mac!

EDIT: Fixed some of the problems Nuniko brought to my attention, and a few other things (Toto had an odd blue halo around him) and darkened/roughened up the clouds to feel more watercolorish.
Another stunning wallpaper from you. ^___^ If you intended to make the building look a little sketchy (because the lines aren't straight), then you did a wonderful job. :) But I think you should add a little more color on the pillar on the area near the Baron's foot, his tail, and his back. There's this weird white outline that makes the Baron look chopped off.
Everything except the sky looks watercolored. It looks nice the way it is, but if you want it to look watercolored, you could try making the edges of the clouds a little rougher.
Lastly, Toto's wing appears pixellated. But that might be just the texture.
I just wonder why I complain so much on such a beautiful wallpaper. X3 This is definitely one of the best Miyazaki wallpapers I've ever seen (if not THE best).
I love the dreamy feeling of this wall, just like Miyasaki's stories themselves. Really nice watercolour effect too. The pillar Baron is leaning on is a little odd though...maybe there's too much of it? Somehow it draws my eyes to it and distracts from the rest of the scene.
The Cat Returns is one of the best anime movies I have seen. Miyazaki's films are excellent and so is this wallpaper. I like the texture you have added onto the image it gives it an old wearring down feel to it. The wallpaper has a very sentimental and calm feel. Really nice work.
Really nice watercolour effect. I like the effects and colors, it looks interesting. I like the texture you have added onto the image it gives it an old wearring down feel. Good job.
I just recently saw the movie and I loved it. I like the watercolor effect you used and how you made baron and muta's eyes. I also enjoy that you changed Baron from orange to grey!!:)
I thought the Cat Returns was a good movie ^_^ Baron is so cool! lol I really like the clouds in the background of this wallpaper :) Everything is just right.
The texture's great, and the color is an interesting contrast with the anime, since it's grayer but still contains that tale-ish atmosphere. But I think you could add more shadow to places near the Baron, it's more natural. Also I agree that the crow looks like a penguin :P
Nice font too!
I agree, i like the anime designs better, but the overall story is sooo good! i like the watercolor feel of this wall, and the light airy feel of the sky being so close since they're on a rooftop. keep up the greeat work!
The Cat Returns is my favorite Ghibli film, so it's no question that I adore this. It's also soft and easy on the eyes, and it has that whimsical quality given to it by the grainy texture and watercolors. Superb work!

Very nice effect. You've managed to extend the wallpaper without making it look empty. I like the textures very much.
